Calling all pre-meds!
What are your majors and GPAs?
What are your majors and GPAs?
Incoming freshman, biochem, pre-med. Didn’t think I’d go here (still not 100% but just planning ahead) so I didn’t apply for the honors program. Planning to apply my freshman yr. Since I’d be taking chemistry this fall, is there a way to get into an honors chem class without initially being in the program or is it unlikely? What are the chances I’ll get a good chem teacher and an A in the class w/o honors and with? (Previously got a 4 in ap chem and understood it very well although I know it differs greatly, I enjoy chem a lot). One of the reasons I’d go to uga is to maintain a high gpa for med school (hopefully 3.9-4.0), and if the chem department (and not being in honors my first semester) is going to prevent that, I’d rather take the ivy route. Please be honest and I’d love to hear from your experiences!!
Cornell (50k/year) vs UGA (~10/15k per yr)
My parents said that they can afford both, but prefer uga due to the pre-med “limitations”I’ve heard of about Cornell.
I didn’t apply to UGA honors because I was exhausted by then and didn’t think I would be going, :( but I’ll be applying my first semester. I’d major in biochem, but I’m a bit concerned about starting chem my first semester without honors. I also don’t know if going to uga will give me as many opportunities as Cornell, and if I’m making a huge mistake. Cornell, I’m just wondering about its location and being able to get clinical/non-clinical hours as well as maintaining a high gpa w/ Biological Sciences w/ biochem conc.
Most important things:
- Maintaining high gpa
- Ease/getting abundant shadowing/volunteering/research throughout each semester (preferably not during breaks unless I want extra) + proximity to those opportunities from campus
- High MCAT!
- No gap year after graduate
Is it normal to pay 99k annually to go to UPenn as a premed with family income being one parent making 200k? My financial aid appeal got rejected (Quaker commitment) and I’m freaking out. I don’t know what to do or what’s going to happen. Medical school comes after. How can I put this financial strain on my family? How can I study there knowing this? My parent is saying everyone pays it. I tell him some people are paying 120k for all four years and other 3k. I don’t know what to do. I don’t have any good state school options as I am on the waitlist for what’d be my top instate choice. Other option would be Cornell which would be 60k, which wouldn’t be worth it for pre-med as opportunities are limited, right? I don’t want to set my medical career up to be difficult. My top choice I another Ivy I’m on the waitlist for, but there tuition policy is under 120k. I’m praying. That’s all I can even do now before asking the financial office why they rejected it.
