AIO: Fiancé says if he wasn’t with me he’d choose to be single.

My fiancé (M22) and I (F22) were having a conversation about our relationship and he made a comment that if we were to break up he’d stay single after. I questioned why that was. He said relationships always felt like too much for him. That he was never really a relationship person, and that if could re do it all he’d stay single and have me as a “best friend”. It kinda threw me off. I’m someone with a lot of anxiety so I had a lot of follow up questions but chose to leave it alone because he expressed that he felt like he was saying something wrong/he shouldn’t have said. (He’s avoidant.)

Is this a normal thing for people?
I don’t understand being in a relationship when you would prefer to be single?? I don’t feel like love is enough, and over time wouldn’t it be more likely that someone who feels that way would want that freedom eventually?

Am I overreacting to feel as though this is an alarming thing to feel for a relationship?
We’ve been together for 4 years.

I (20 F) have had this in the back of my mouth for a few months (i’d say five) and I noticed two red veins covering it. I couldn’t find any information on it. Is this a tonsil stone? I smoke.
