Is it possible to use Tailscale privately?

Tailscale's CEO has already stated that the product doesn't provide any anonymity. Is there any way to address that?

What do you guys think of the RB5009UPr+S+IN?

The intention is to place this in a structured media enclosure. It'll either be used with a hEX S 2025, GL.iNet Brume 3, or an OPNsense router. I'm still debating and figure out the direction that I want to go, but the RB5009UPr+S+IN seems like a very nice durable switch. What do you guys think? What, where, and how are you using your RB5009UPr+S+IN?

Which hEX S to get?

Typically, I would get the latest version, but it seems like one of the older models is compatible with OpenWRT. Would that be a better idea? What am I gaining with the 2025 version of the hEX S?

Where can I buy Mikrotik products in Canada?

I do see them on Amazon, but it seems like they're only sold by third-party sellers. Where do people typically buy Mikrotik products in Canada?

Can the hEX S (2025) be used as a switch?

I really like the size and feastures of the hEX S (2025). However, I don't want to use it as a router. The fact that it's a router is also a good thing if I ever want to repurpose the device. Can I use this as a managed switch and connected to either an OPNsense router or GL.iNet Brume 3 router?

Totally new to Mikrotik, but are the products private and secured?

I've never heard of this brand until fairly recently. It seems like Mikrotik is mentioned a lot in the homelab community. Why?

How's the privacy, reliability, and security of Mikrotik's products? Phoning home and account requirements are a major turnoff for me.

Switch and access points to complete the OpenWRT network?

I want to use the Brume 3 to power the OpenWRT network for a two story townhouse. I'm looking to build out a relatively harden network. Would the network be made more secured if no remote access is allowed?

The newest firmware has an IoT network and that's where all of my wireless IoT devices will connect to. Can my wired devices like the Playstation and TV be forced to connect to the IoT network?

I'll need a switch since the Brume 3 has only one LAN port. I would prefer to have one access point per floor. The ISP offers gigabit fiber.

I really don't need more a GbE, but I'm not against 2.5GbE for the local network. OpenWRT seems to have no shortage of options in terms of access points as I can easily buy a new or used router and flash it. I don't really need WiFi 7. A switch seems to be much harder, especially if all I need are 4-5 ports. Not sure why that's the case. What do you guys recommend?

Difference between the Door Hub and Door Hub Mini

I still don't quite understand these two products. I just know that I'll need one in order to use the Intercom Viewer with the G6 Entry.

What are the differences and the other use cases for either of these two products?

Anyone here want a GL.iNet rack-mountable gateway?

A rack-mountable Brume 3 would be a great idea. I'd love to see it fit those 10" racks. Then either wall or ceiling-mountable access points. I wish GL.iNet would focus on something like this rather than touchscreens for future products.

A Brune 4 with the Flint 4's internals would be an amazing idea!

Anyone here using AstroWarp?

I've just been told that the pricing has changed, and I just checked, but it seems like I need to create an account to get a definitive answer. The Plus tier starts at $2.99/month. The key word here is "starts." Are there more tiers? Does the $2.99 tier offer unlimited bandwidth?

Can anyone explain to me how AstroWarp is more private and secure than Tailscale, ZeroTier, or NetBird?

Upgrading from a 36" to a 42" structured media enclosure?

My understanding is that the width and depth of the enclosures in the industry are standardized. If I want to go with a taller enclosure, I'm assuming I'll need to remove drywall to get the taller enclosure to fit. What do I need to know about this? Anyone ever upgraded from a shorter enclosure to a taller enclosure? Is it an easy retrofit?

iPhone, iPad, and Pixel 10 USB to Ethernet dock?

I don't know if this is possible, but I notice that there are USB/Thunderbolt docks with an Ethernet port. If I connect my iPhone, iPad, and Pixel 10 to this dock with USB-C cables, can all three devices charge and connect to the internet simultaneously even though the dock has one Ethernet port?

What do I need to know about Ethernet-to-USB adapters?

https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Ethernet-Compatible-Chromecast/dp/B0F8TDL49F?nsdOptOutParam=true&refresh=1

I need to buy two adapters, one for my iPhone and the other for my MacBook Neo. I don't know where to start, but Cable Matters seem to have a decent one with 140W charging. I know my Neo downer support such a fast charging speed, but I want to buy once and cry once. Hopefully, it'll be an adapter for life.

My home network is 10GbE. Cable Matters seem to be selling a gigabit, 2.5GbE, and a 5GbE versions of this adapter. For a laptop, which one would you go with?

For my iPhone, I'm leaning on the gigabit version as it seems to be overkill for anything faster. I'm not against going faster since the price difference is relatively small.

It seems like most of the adapters on the market is using Realtek chipsets. Are these any good?

If not Cable Matters, do you guys have any other suggestions?

Thx!

What do I need to know about USB-C extension cables?

https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Ethernet-Compatible-Thunderbolt/dp/B0FC61NLVD?nsdOptOutParam=true&refresh=1

I'll be buying this adapter soon, but the problem is that the cable isn't long enough. I'm going to need a USB-C extension cable that's about 6 feet long. What do I need to know about these cables? Ideally, it'll support the 140W charging speed and 2.5Gbps Ethernet port. I don't know if USB-IF certifies these kinds of cables or not. What do you guys recommend?

Cost-effective home theater using my existing Samsung QN90A TV? Future-proofing?

I currently have a 2021 65" Samsung QN90A. I mainly use it to watch the news, streaming, and sports. Eventually, I want to get back to gaming with a videogame console.

It's sort of an interesting time as new standards kike HDMI 2.2 and Dolby Vision 2 are on the horizon. I don't think my existing TV is too old that I should throw it away and buy a new one now. Maybe you guys can convince me to change my mind?

My TV doesn't support Dolby Vision. I've been advised there are devices I can buy that will effectively give me Dolby Vision. Is that worth buying to help me get the most out of Dolby Vision content?

Ideally, I'd build out a new home theater setup using my existing TV as the basis. I don't have a good audio solution; I'm just using the TV's speakers. I know that discrete speakers are ideal, but are soundbars good enough in 2026? I know Dolby Atmos FlexConnect is coming out. What are the implications? Should I wait for that as well? I also see 11.1.4 options. For 4K UHD Blu-Ray, Netflix 4K, and Disney+, what would I need to get the most out of those formats? I also use Apple Music.

Looking forward to reading your opinions!
