A few years ago, I moved my mom and grandma in with me at my (36F) house.
After a dramatic Christmas morning where my mom told me she almost aborted me, I opted to spend every holiday I can away from my family. My mom is always welcome to invite over whoever she wants to the house for holidays and she does! Birthdays, BBQs, thanks giving, Christmas, the whole family comes over to my house because my Grandma (94) is here, with me. But every holiday, I try to find somewhere to go, travel, book a hotel, spend time with friends, anything to get away from my mom during those times.
This year for Mother’s Day, I’m going to spend it away from my mom with a friend. My mom kind of nonchalantly made an “ok, whatever” comment about it. I feel like the asshole but im trying to prioritize my own mental health. I ordered flowers to be delivered for both mom and gram on Mother’s Day so that’s coming. But I still feel like an asshole.
