Should we let him sleep?

Hello all,

My husband and I are just moved in with my 93 year old FIL who has bladder cancer (although he seems to be fine since having radiation from that 2 years ago). He had a stroke last year and that really slowed him down. Now he’s just barely getting by and Hospice is involved and comes a few times a week. My husband works so basically it’s all me all day.

My question is this. He basically sleeps all day and night, except for getting up to use the bathroom. He doesn’t talk much. He falls asleep every time he sits down, even on the toilet.

We are wondering whether to wake him up for meals. His appetite has gone way down. Should we just let him sleep or wake him up to eat? I’m know it sounds simple but I am curious.

93 year FIL sleeping all the time

We are taking care of my 93 year old FIL. He has bladder cancer but after radiation 2 years ago, it’s not bothered him. He also had a small stroke last year that really took the wind out of his sail.

He has been with Hospice for about 3 months. He is now on oxygen all the time, as his oxygen level was in the low 80s without it. His feet are quite swollen.

He can still walk with his walker but it’s getting much harder.

Anyway, he literally sleeps most of the day and many hours at night. He will
sit on the couch and nod off constantly. He sometimes goes back to bed for hours.

His appetite has gone downhill as well, although he is eating.

I’m assuming this is just part of the dying process?

I am 3 years post memo.

Had a pap earlier today and just used the bathroom and saw I was bleeding! Not a ton but way more than I’ve seen in years and it kinda freaked me out.

I don’t usually bleed after my paps but I have in the past a bit (prior to meno). This is a little heavier and I’m assuming it’s because I’m older and dried up lol.

I use vaginal estrogen but nothing else.

Anyone else get this post meno?
