Transferred to a university in San Diego not knowing anyone a few years back. Thought finding housing would be straightforward. It was not. Needed roommates fast with no network to pull from. Tried Facebook, Craigslist, the university housing spreadsheet, every roommate site I could find. All random, none of it built for students on a deadline.

Summer school I took over a lease from a guy on Instagram. Moved into a spot I had zero context on, bad location, rough commute to everything. Completely blind going in.

Second year I had roommates sorted but finding landlords who actually wanted student tenants was its own wall. Housing that should have been figured out months earlier turned into a last minute scramble again.

Every year thousands of students go through the exact same thing. Nobody has actually fixed it.

Curious if anyone else has dealt with this at SDSU — what was your experience finding housing and roommates?

Transferring from a JC to a university in a new city where I knew nobody was one of the best decisions I ever made. The housing search that came with it might have taken a few years off my life though.

I needed roommates fast with no network to pull from. Tried Facebook, Craigslist, university spreadsheets, every roommate site I could find. All random, none of it built for students on a deadline. Found solid people eventually but it was way more stressful than it needed to be.

Summer school I took over a lease from a guy on Instagram. Moved into a spot I had zero context on, bad location, rough commute to everything. Completely blind going in.

Second year I had roommates sorted but then finding landlords who actually wanted to rent to students was its own wall. Housing that should have been locked in months earlier turned into a last minute scramble again.

That whole experience is what made me build Lence. Free for college students with a .edu email. You match with compatible roommates based on lifestyle and budget first then find housing together as a group. Landlords on the platform specifically want student tenants.

If you're a CSULB student going through this right now this is what I wish existed back then.
