NGD: Studio 10 Top

I posted about this stunning Studio 10 Top when I ordered it, well it arrived today, and its just as beautiful in person.

The neck is chunkier then I expected, compared to the pattern thin I am used to. Also, the nitro finish is going to take some getting used to, it definately feels stickier then poly, I havnt owned a nitro finish guitar since the late 80s, and that was my beater Gibson SG, where I sanded the finish down to satin on the neck. I am certainly not taking sand paper anywhere near this thing!

I wont have a chance to plug it in and take it for a true test drive until later today. But I am very pleased.

Does this guitar exist? Steel string similar to Cordoba stage

I own a Cordoba Stage, I absolutely love it, pretty niche guitar though. I am wondering if a steel string guitar exists in the same vein?

Piezo AND a microphonic pickup, in a compact chambered or hollow or semi hollow body? The blend knob between the two pickups really makes the Cordoba Stage shine, and I would love a similar guitar in steel string.

I remember 30 years ago Chet Atkins signature guitars, that at least had the body style right, but acoustic pickup tech has come a lot way since then.

Edit: I own a piezo electric PRS, the chambered body is key with a microphonic pickup as well. A PRS hollowbody II with a microphone pickup with a blend knob is what I am seeing in my head. Seeking acoustic sounds that my arthritis can still play, the Cordoba opened up my eyes to possibilities.

My new core thats enroute to me has a traditional Tolex case, I am considering buying the ATA D1 case for it (and using the Tolex for one of my SEs),

Those who have both, do you think it's worth it, even if not planning to fly with it? PRS claims the ATA D1 case is lighter, but I cant find the weight on it reliably (sweetwater lists the tolex at 16lbs, but no weight on the ATA D1).

I live in a high humidity evironment and in my experience wood tolex cases (from other brands at least) have a pretty limited lifespan.

I am generally a gig bag guy, but the core model is definately going in a hard case.

Warmoth sells a Jerry Irwin shaped body, I am wondering if anyone has done one and wants to share photos?

Unfortunately they dont offer it in chambered or hollow options. But I emailed them inquiring if it's maybe possible. I would love to do the Jerry style shape in a hollow body with lighting bolt shaped F holes.

I know I can click download individually, which my arthritis isnt a fan of. But I would love to have the entire library on hand for when I dont have internet.

I am absolutely a function before form guy when it comes to guitars. I was shopping for much cheaper models with this pickup configuration (PRS studio is 58/15 humbucker and two "narrowfield" pickups, mimicking an HSS config). I was seriously considering a PRS SE in Slate Blue color, or a PRS S2 in purple black burst, never in my life did I seriously consider a core model. Occasionally though I do look at core models, we all dream right? And found this 10 top core model at nearly half price as new old stock, unplayed and never owned 24 model. On a whim I took the dive, this is a dealer photo, it isnt here yet (and I wont be able to take such a nice photo), I cant beleive this was unsold old stock, its one of the nicest tops I have seen. Worried I made a bad decision, on researching prices on reverb, even 15 year old used models of this guitar sell for more then I paid for this brand new one, so it was my once in a lifetime unicorn that I cannot wait to get into my hands.

I dont have it with me yet. But I am over the moon excited.

I have been shopping for an S2 studio for awhile in black purple burst. Looking for the right deal on one that contained the USA hardware, limited market since its pretty recent change and I am specific on color and want a decent top, since S2 tops are not always amazing.

I always said I would never buy a core, because after a certain point, quality improvement is near nil, and you are paying for cosmetics. I can appreciate the cosmetics, but dont feel the need to pay for them. I dont want to own a guitar I am afraid to touch because I might scratch it.

I not only bought a core model, but I bought a 10 top core model today. And given my feelings, a 10 top is something I never would buy, even as beautiful as they are.

I wanted an S2 Studio, in purple. The black purple finish of the S2 was never as appealing as the Purple Mist, which is only in the core line and much more vibrant, but I wasnt going to pay thousands more for a shade difference. My two favorite finishes PRS offers, Aurora Borealis and Purple Mist are core only, but not worth it to me for a color.

I came across a deal on a new old stock PRS Studio 10 top, for almost half the price of new, that I just couldnt resist. I never intended to own a core, much less a 10 top, it was old stock 2024 model and a steep discount, never owned or played. I got caught up in the moment, and now a purple mist 10 top studio is enroute to me, I cant wait to post photos of it in person, I am over the moon. Dealer provided photo for now, I will make a future post when it's here with the rest of my PRS family.
