Noisy roof vent next door?

The building 2 doors down from mine is nearing completion and they’ve recently connected their roof vent.

This roof vent is ridiculously noisy. I live on a main road near an airport and the roof vent is worse with the noise than those - it is a loud humming and whirring.

It’s barely been a few days and it’s already driving us crazy.

I am inclined to complain to Council but is there anything else we can do?

On the fence - what made you decide to have kids?

For as long as I can remember, I've wanted kids. I even froze embryos 2 years ago (at 27) due to lower egg count.

The closer I get to when I thought I'd be having kids, the more unready I feel.

Freezing embryos took pressure off my shoulders I didn't know I had in the first place but now I'm even questioning sometimes if I want kids. I've had times in the past where I've felt very clucky and nowadays not at all.

For those of you who were on the fence, what tipped you over into having kids?

Diamond bracelet watch restoration?

I have just purchased this diamond bracelet with and integrated covered watch (underneath the round centre section).

Unfortunately the watch mechanism and face are heavily damaged and not operational. It is not possible to see the brand of the watch because the face is in poor enough condition that you can't read any brand (if any is listed).

I have found a number of similar pieces (example #1#2#3#4#5) I have deducted it is likely a circa 1950s Hamilton watch. From a watch & clock forum elsewhere, being that the metal is iridium platinum, it is likely a 'jobber's case' made by a jeweller (see here). I couldn't find a maker's mark for the exact jeweller.

As the watch itself is not operational, I will need to have it restored.

From what I've told, sourcing Hamilton parts isn't the easiest where I live so I'm wondering, will it negatively impact the value of this piece if I have the watch mechanism replaced with any swiss component that fits?

I don't intend to sell it (I bought this for my 30th birthday) but it is such a breathtaking piece it would be nice to one day have this be a family heirloom, particularly if in my lifetime it will become antique if my research on estimated dating is correct.

Our apartment has what is essentially an enclosed patio at the entry-way. It is technically common property but it is behind (our) locked door and is basically a long hallway before you enter a 2^(nd) door inside our unit. This area has frosted glass.

We’ve been pinged by strata for breaching by-law 21 prohibiting items “visible from the outside not in keeping with the appearance of the building” because 1 panel of our shoe cabinet is partially visible.

HOWEVER, I did a walk through of the building and more than 50% of units are doing the same thing.

I intend to raise a motion to change the by-law but in the meantime I wanted to ask, is there really any argument about the building’s appearance when the majority are doing it?

I'm 28 and have been using skincare since I was 25.

What I'm wondering is, at what age should I up the strength of retinol to a stronger serum? Or do I base it on how my skin is coping and if I'm seasoned with it?

I'm still quite young so working on preventative ageing and generally having nice glowy skin but I haven't really come across much on the question at hand.

Background: Hubby and I haven't started family planning yet but with a huge (Sydney sized) mortgage over our heads, we've calculated we'd roughly need an extra $2k income a month to afford childcare which is terrifying. We both love our jobs and would hate to leave them over salary.

Question: I'd love to hear from those of you with children in childcare, how much are you paying / what is your salary? I only ask the latter since that plays into what the actual out of pocket costs are.

Edit: Thanks to those that have replied so far. I am feeling far more comfortable now that the out of pocket costs won't be nearly as high as I had thought. In short, we're not as screwed as I was worried we might be 😄
