How to people sleep with this horrible issue?

I have a sudden onset of severe tmj due to a badly find filling putting my bite out of alignment. I seriously cannot sleep. The pain is so severe. I’ve taken as much otc pain relief as I can. How do people cope with this?

What prescription sleep meds have people had success with?

After years of dealing with insomnia and being an idiot by not addressing it, I’m finally going to talk to my gp about it. It’s being spurred on by current super stressful health and life situations, and I have anxiety and depression anyways. So I just can’t ignore not being able to sleep anymore. What have people had success with? I was thinking if Lunesta due to a friend who’s had success with it.

Would you do fillings on these teeth?

Wondering what everyone thinks of tooth 30 (first pic) and teeth 18 and 19 in the next picture. Would you do fillings or just monitor?

I only just got a bunch of copies of my X-rays. #30 is actually a tooth I recently had filled. Looking at this I’m wondering if it was worth doing? Obviously can’t go back in time. The tooth had no symptoms. And to get to these cavities a lot of my tooth structure was drilled away, which has caused all kinds of issues, like my bite needing adjusting, etc.

Teeth 18 and 19 also have these yellow ai dots that apparently mean cavities in the enamel. Do I bother getting them filled right now? Or can the just be watched for the time being? Would a high flouride toothpaste remineralize them?

Any meds that don’t cause dry mouth?

So SSRI’s don’t work for me. I’ve gotten in with a psychiatrist for the first time and I’m assuming we’ll be trying some other type of medication at some point. I’ve tried to do my research on the different options so I’m going in somewhat informed. It seems like every antidepressant/antianxiety med has dry mouth as a side effect. I have an autoimmune disease that causes systemic dryness, especially in my mouth. So something that causes dry mouth is a no go for me. Are there any meds that don’t cause dry mouth? Thanks!

I think my dentist filled the wrong tooth

I thought I was getting a filling in tooth #31, my second molar on the bottom right. It has visible cavities and an older filling. I wasn’t given a treatment plan in writing beforehand with a tooth number and I don’t remember them telling me a certain tooth number. But I’m sure the assistant said back molar. I though that meant you know the farthest back molar. And she says that’s the only one that needs to be done on the bottom right. So again, I thought it was the one with the cavities.

I come out of that appointment, look in the mirror at home and the tooth with the cavities looks no different. Instead the tooth in front of it, tooth 30, which had a filling that was perfectly fine (in fact the hygienist commented on how well it had held up) was severely altered. I had a strong healthy tooth with five cusps that was giving me no issues whatsoever. Now I have a sharp rough tooth that barely touches the molar above it. It’s thrown off my bite, made my premolars and canines hit sooner and with more force (which makes me very worried about them fracturing), and caused terrible jaw pain. Chewing is just a nightmare. It’s hard to chew exclusively on my other side because I have a missing second molar. I have a lot of problems with my teeth and this one was fine, and I’m so upset.

The new fillings on tooth 30 look to me to be exactly where the decay and old fillings were on tooth 31. I also requested copies of my X-rays and many of the teeth including these molars were misnumbered. Tooth 30 was labeled tooth 31 multiple times. Not to mention the X-rays were just terrible. I’m hoping they aren’t what was used to come up with my so called treatment plan.

Of course this guy has been out of the office. So I go in tomorrow to unload all these issues onto some other poor dentist. But it needs to be done. I will be respectful and not accusatory, but I’m going to insist on answers and some kind of solution. I don’t even know what this tooth was done! My life has been turned upside down by all this. It’s not only that this seems to possibly be a mistake. It was done so poorly. One if the cusps is literally sheared in half, creating a sharp edge.

I don’t ask this lightly. But does this look at all like this tooth was done by mistake?

Is dentist filling the wrong tooth malpractice?

I’m in Virginia. A dentist (fairly new to me) recently did a filling on a bottom first molar #30. I was told it’s the only tooth on the bottom right that needs treatment. First of all, it’s not the tooth I thought they were going to do. When they said bottom back tooth I thought we were doing the second molar behind it (31). I can see cavities on the tooth. The tooth he did (tooth 30) had no problems that I could see or feel. The hygienist even mentioned during my cleaning that my old fillings looked really well done and had held up. They never gave me paperwork with a treatment plan saying what tooth would be done so I really had no idea it wasnt the one I was thinking. Even then I never thought to memorize tooth numbers so not sure I’d have picked up on it. And I’ve never been in a situation where I felt I needed to double check the number of a tooth. In the future I’m double checking each and every tooth number for any price cure to I know we’re on the same page.

So when I got home and realized the tooth with cavities was unchanged and the other tooth had been severely altered I was in shock. He drilled away at most of the tooth structure, removing one whole cusp and altering the others. One cusp has a sheared off edge that’s sharp. The sheared off portion is sensitive, like the dentin’s been exposed. It feels like it wasn’t adequately filled back in with composite and it feels very short. This molar now barely touches the teeth above it and feels very nonfunctional. My premolars now touch sooner and are in constant pain. The tooth wasn’t polished at all and the filling is rough like sandpaper with sharp sides. Food is constantly getting stuck in it. My jaw is in constant pain from having to clench down so far to chew properly. I’m trying to chew on the other side but I’m missing a back molar on that side so it’s difficult. It’s caused a lot of anxiety and I’ve found myself avoiding eating. Mind you I’ve had a tooth extracted and managed to feed myself during that just fine. This is actually crazy how much it’s messed up my mouth.

I requested the office send me my X-rays. Not only are they terrible quality (and maybe that’s just the copies I’m getting, but still, why are they so bad?) they’re misnumbered. There’s even teeth on there (my wisdom teeth) that I don’t have. It’s making me suspicious that the wrong tooth truly was done. Even if the wrong tooth wasn’t done, I can’t see any reason for having done this tooth. In fact I truly don’t know why it was done. I’m of course going to get clarification when I go back but I have a feeling they’ll say it was because of the old filling.

Of course he’s out of the office for a while. Im seeing another dentist at the practice on Monday. I plan to see a dentist outside this place for a second opinion.

Is there any malpractice in this situation? Especially if he doesn’t fix the tooth, or i find out that this tooth didn’t need treatment or that the wrong tooth was done? Or is this more of a state medical board complaint situation? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Dentist ruined my life

The dentist I’m currently seeing has ruined my life. There’s been a number of issues, and I should have left sooner. But I had a lot of issues from not going for so long and was desperate. He’s rated very highly so I though I was going to someone qualified and trustworthy.

A week ago during what should have been a routine filling (on a tooth with no decay just an old filling) he destroyed a bottom first molar by removing most of the tooth structure. One cusp is gone and flattened. Two cusps have been shortened and disfigured, including one that’s been essentially cut in half leaving the dentin exposed, which has caused extreme sensitivity. This tooth now barely touches the tooth above it and only when I clench really hard. This has caused msssive issues with my bite and serious chronic tmj pain. It’s also caused my premolars to hit sooner and take more force, which sucks because I have a crown on a top premolar that was also done by this guy and was botched. So every time I chew my bottom teeth hit this tooth and it’s extremely painful. Icing on the cake is I had to have a molar extracted on the other side because this jerk wouldn’t get me in soon enough for a root canal, so I really need to be able to chew on this side. And now I can’t. This side of mouth is useless.

I have panic attacks when I think about everything that’s going on or feel a twinge if pain in my mouth. I have to take advil constantly. I have anxiety when I think about going back to the dentist. I know I need to, but I’m terrified. I have anxiety about eating. The thought of having to chew fill me with dread. I’m so depressed and upset over this I can’t function. I don’t know what to do. I feel completely hopeless.

Does this sound like TMJ?

I’ve had a lot of dental work done recently on my right side. And the dentist is kind of an ass so a lot of it was done very roughly. I’ve had a root canal and crown, a bunch of fillings. Not to mention the plethora of injections and holding my mouth open for hours. The most recent thing was a filling on a molar where he literally felt like he was drilling into my jaw. I think both this filling and the crown have messed up my bite alignment on that side.

Ive had pain along my jaw for months. Anything from throbbing to a dull ache to tenderness, but it’s almost always present. I also am prone to headaches that develop only on that side of my face. I noticed today when I happened to have my hand on my face while yawning that my jaw was popping. I couldn’t hear it, but I could feel it. It’s the area where my jaw connects to my cheekbone. I also feel pain by my ear and my lower jaw. I’ve circled the spots in this picture: https://imgur.com/a/xC9KxLm

The other side of my face has no issues. Could this be tmj?
