I regret to inform you of the demise of Dr. William V. Tamborlane Jr., a longtime Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology at Yale School of Medicine and Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics. Dr. Tamborlane was a trailblazing Type 1 diabetes researcher who revolutionized insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring, and the treatment of children with diabetes. He began his career as a fellow at Yale, where he spent decades influencing the field and training future generations of doctors. On May 12, 2026, he died at the age of 79. May the Yale community continue to benefit from his legacy and influence on innumerable young patients.
