I am 22 weeks post ORIF.

My first 8 weeks was insomnia and pain.I couldn't wear the Boot it caused nerve agony. The surgeon wasn't concerned as with a trimalleolar fracture,I had plates screws and a syndesmotic screw. I could weight bear at 8 to 10 weeks.

I am on a plateau of walking on 3000 steps with pain and dorsiflexion is still limited. I have a sharp pain when I flex or try to do standing heel lifts. My purple foot due to limited pump from my atrophied calf muscle causes constant discomfort when traveling, even with compression socks.

I am going back to the surgeon this week to see if removing syndesmotic screw will relieve the sharp pain at the front of the foot when walking .

We are going on a European Cruise in June which will require more walking with pain relieved by then. hopefully. I am an active 75 year woman and was skiing until this year. I am trying to lose the 10 lbs I put on with this injury by being on Recumbent bike , and using weights to build muscle . I was able to start walking at 10 weeks with water physiotherapy training. I see the regular physio, and he agrees I have plateau 'd.

Have any of you been stuck in this place? How did you get through it? Thank goodness cardio on VR Oculus with supernatural app and recumbent bike helps me to stay out of the depression dumpster.

My family thinks I had botched surgery, so I'm thinking of getting a second opinion in Toronto. This is just taking too long. Have any of you had improved mobility after getting syndesmotic screw or other hardware removed? I'm a newbie to Reddit, don't know how to post my x-rays.
