Is 2026 a bad time to pursue a career as an insurance agency owner?

I’m looking at State Farm.

The bulk of their book is auto, which is projected to contract with lower premiums and autonomous driving. Manufacturers and software companies may also offer their own insurance like Tesla.

Concerned I won’t have much runway before there’s major disruption to the products I’d sell.

Will AI also replace the sales reps in the agency?

How many years are safely left to pursue this career?

Thank you

Hi. I can only blame myself for my current situation. I’d truly appreciate any advice.

I have 7 years of unfiled taxes—I never filed.

Most of it is 1099 income, with some W2 that didn’t have enough withholding to prevent owing.

The total is around $495k; ~440k if you only count last 6 years for compliance.

I talked to two enrolled agents so far. One said to do nothing, lol. Never got a letter. No SFR.

I really need to get this fixed, but I’m worried the payment will kill me with the penalties and interest.

AI estimates I’ll owe 80-160k depending on my 1099 write offs (not looking like I have a lot)

I have ~150-180k in crypto, but if I sell it, I owe more taxes…

Would an offer in compromise not be viable?

I’m currently unemployed.

Thank you very much for any advice.
