Ok so here’s the story- I have a longtime friend who used to be my roommate also and I had a pretty close relationship with her (Lets call her Miss S)because we lived together for three years and then we stayed friends. we had a group of about 5 to 6 mutual friends, but slowly it was only me and her , and Miss T. Few months ago she got engaged and it was a big engagement party. Everybody among her friends and families were invited, but I wasn’t. I only came to know that it was her engagement party through her social media, and I was very surprised because a couple of people reached out to me that they were surprised not to see me there as they thought that it was expected that she would invite me. I also know some people who are not very close to her got the invitation and someone even said that they were surprised to get the invitation as they are not even close to her and just know her through some mutual friends. so clearly there was no budget limitations or size of the party limitations that I wasn’t invited.

But a couple months after her engagement party it was my 30th birthday party and I reached out to one of my other friends (Miss T) who’s also very close friends to Miss S, to invite T for my birthday party. I did not invite S to my birthday because she did not invite me to her engagement and I took it as a sign that this friendship has now evolved in just being acquaintance, which I prefer because S is a lot of drama to deal with and thats why she keeps losing friends.

Anyways few days after this, I all of a sudden get the bridal shower invite from S via e invite.. I was surprised. She later called me , I missed her call and i called her then she did not pick up. I did not pay attention to it because I was like why is she inviting me to her bridal shower when i m not invited to the wedding itself? Whatever- i ignored it. About 3 weeks after I get her wedding e-invite. She calls and I miss the call again but i texted her congrats S, i m away for a long vacation and I’ll get back to u when I come back. Honestly, when I returned I forgot all about it because it had been 4-5 weeks . Anyways she calls again after about 2 months, the wedding is now a month away. It was the morning time around 9:30, i was at my work so I missed it again, but I called back within 30 seconds and then I called again two more times within 3 minutes. That made me think that may be she is just pretending to invite me, why would she never pick up my call whenever I call her back. Also, I am bit salty for not getting invited at the engagement party. At this point I really dont want to go to her wedding. AITA for overthinking and declining her invitation. I feel like she invited me because I invited T for my birthday and T and S are best friends and S has big time FOMO- the whole friend circle knows that, also S wants to be the center of attention all the time. So she felt left out and invited me but never actually meant to invite me.
