I was thinking about starting to make video games, and since I love the Danganronpa series, I wanted to make a fangame with an idea I've had for a while. The problem is, I don't know if it's really worth putting effort into a fangame knowing how limited they are by Spike's terms for derivative works. I'm afraid to dedicate the effort knowing that even if I published it for free, I wouldn't be able to get it on Steam, and that technically, Spike has the right to change its terms whenever it wants and remove my game or even sue me.

I thought that since all the characters and everything else are original, maybe I could avoid that, just like there are many Pokémon clones on Steam that get away with it because they have different creatures, but then I see things like Project Eden's Garden (I know it's canceled, but that's for reasons that aren't relevant right now) that are completely different from Danganronpa and that also have to limit themselves to Itch.io and label themselves with derivative projects to be published. I want to know this because if they're still considered fangames, then I might prefer to spend my time on something else and not take the risk.

I'm writing a murder mystery where a character is killed with a knife while other people are in the next room behind the door. That's why I need a way to kill them silently without the other people noticing. I had thought about the classic movie method of killing them instantly with a cut to the throat, but I am not sure if that would work in real life.
