We are looking to responsibly rehome our 2 year old male Akita. We are in Colorado and would strongly prefer that he stay in Colorado or possibly go to a close neighboring state if the right home is found.
This is not a decision we made lightly. When we got him a little over 2 years ago, our lives looked very different. Since then, both of us have had job changes, promotions, and much longer work hours. We are now gone from home 10 to 11 hours a day most weekdays, and it is just not fair to him. He deserves more time, attention, and consistency than we can realistically give him right now.
He is a very gentle, friendly dog and has been incredibly sweet with our 5 year old. He is an important part of our family, which is exactly why this is so hard.
Because he is an Akita, we want to be very careful about where he goes. We would strongly prefer someone with Akita or other large guardian breed experience who understands the breed and what they need. We will not let him go to just anyone. The right home matters far more than a quick placement.
If you are in Colorado or a nearby state, have breed experience, and think you may be a good fit, please send me a private message with a little about yourself, your home, and your experience.
Please be kind. This is heartbreaking for us, and we are only doing this because we want what is best for him.
