So basically I rent a house from my landlord, and two other people live with me. The lease has me as the head tenant and another girl on the lease as a tenant. However, things got a bit financially difficult and I let out another room to a guy in recent months but didn’t tell the landlord. Being honest, the landlord is very distant and I had other people living there before and told her months later and she didn’t seem to care much as long as the rent is paid each month.
However the guy who rents a room there didn’t sign anything, no deposit just sends me the money each month. He isn’t on the lease.
He’s become a nightmare. He only paid me half the rent this month and said “I don’t know when I’ll have the rent”. I was also living away for a bit and I came back to the property and he said what are you doing back?
He is also requesting the landlords information so he can speak to her directly but I refused.
I want to give notice to leave but I’m wondering what could be the repercussions if any for me? I’ve lived In the house rented for 17 years, he’s been there 5 months. The other girl I live with is perfect and even pays rent early.
I’m afraid to go into my own home at this stage and I’m even staying in my friends house tonight because of how confrontational it’s gotten.
My question is, if I change the locks after the notice period to leave is over am I within my rights? What would happen if the Gards got involved etc.
