Dear MLs, if you’re not human excel, what are you even doing? Duke of the North? More like Duke of Stupid

Need more recs with dynamic like in Netkama Punch!!

I want more dynamic where both seme and uke are equally unhinged with potty mouths.
Not a fan of omegaverae, guideverse all that verses. It’d be good if the uke’s not too plain or feminine but I can digest that. (The only problem with Netkama punch!! that I have is the uke is so bug eyed mid series but I can tolerate it cuz the dynamic is so good)

Why can’t anyone do CPR?

Every time someone randomly drops dead, usually from poison, nobody freaking does CPR lmaoo. Kogoro will just be like, “Oh no, he’s gone,” and Conan’s over there like, “There’s an almond scent… it’s cyanide!?” Bro, do something. Especially Kogoro, you should be trained for this as an ex-cop.
They only show CPR only when the victim drowns and/or for Conan to “kiss” the girl lol

If you got isekai’d, would you be able to participate in human trafficking?

There are so many stories where modern women get isekai’d into novels or games and somehow have no problem participating in human trafficking. Some of them acknowledge that it’s wrong, but justify it as something they have to do for survival or to help an important character. Personally, though, even if I’m not smart or brave enough to try to change the system, I’d still have a huge problem participating in it.

Like, how can someone from the modern world sit in an auction house that sells humans (or species equivalent to humans) and just not feel like shit? If I absolutely had to do it to save someone from certain death, then maybe I would. But other than that, I probably wouldn’t even consider it an option. Especially to help someone that’s gonna survive anyway. I’m not giving money to traffickers??

This story really suffers from its long hiatus. It was a pretty good story when it was first released, but by today’s standards, it has become mid—outdated and an easy read. The art, however, is still extremely gorgeous.

This is NOT a story for someone who has issues with pseudo-incest relationships between step-siblings. However, from my perspective as an only child, I don’t consider them siblings if they don’t share blood and were never treated as such by their parents. They’re just strangers forced to live together due to circumstances.

Now for my rant. There will be heavy spoilers, so read at your own discretion.

I reaaally disliked the FL after rereading the whole story. She’s not just overly kind—she has no concept of boundaries. She has a strange savior complex toward the second ML and becomes weirdly physically intimate with him—petting his hair, touching his face, hugging him, and even kneeling before him. I understand that the author wants to portray her as someone who treats everyone equally, but it feels off when she clearly acknowledges that the second ML lacks a sense of self and is entirely dependent on someone who helped him and his sister. Although I don’t like him either (and will talk about him next), it’s painful to watch him essentially live as her slave because she can’t set boundaries.

She’s written as competent—capable of acting as the head of the house—but at times she’s incredibly foolish. I’m not referring to her obliviousness to the ML’s feelings. She’s repeatedly warned that spirits don’t do things for free, yet she continues to abuse that power because some spirits favor her as “the reader.” Then, unsurprisingly, when she calls on a spirit that doesn’t care about her, she loses her sight in exchange for saving her life. That’s a fair trade, if anything. Yet instead of being grateful, she blames the “original story” and cries about how it no longer needs her. Which is… questionable. Being blind is terrifying, yes—but death by a monster is worse.

Then there’s the whole “I can’t change my fate” mindset. She already changed her fate simply by surviving. She changed someone else’s fate by saving the second ML’s sister. So what does she mean by fate being unchangeable? That contradiction is frustrating. And this is my biggest issue with her: she doesn’t deserve the ML’s love. While he is consistently respectful, loyal, and affectionate, she drowns in self-pity, pushes him away, and fixates on fate. She doesn’t respect his feelings or his character. It’s fine to feel anxious or insecure, but why doubt someone you supposedly love? If she respected him, she would fight for their relationship. She can handle enormous debt, terrible relatives, and even the royal family—but not her own love? The ML has to do all the work to prove he’s not someone who would discard her when the original FL appears.

I could go on about how flawed her character is—and not in a compelling way—but honestly, she’s the most boring character in the story. Even the trash crown prince is mildly entertaining in his stupidity. She’s just… there. Her development is minimal. She remains overly kind to a fault and “perfect” in all the ways that don’t matter. She feels like a blank, doe-eyed protagonist loved by everyone. That kind of character can work, but here it’s just dull—very y/n-coded. Ironically, she also resembles the typical “white lotus” OG FL villain trope, constantly being physically affectionate with men (she’s practically been bridal-carried by every men in her household) while maintaining an innocent image.

The second ML is my second least favorite character. Given his trauma and the FL’s savior complex, it makes sense that he lacks a sense of self. But what he doesn’t lack is entitlement. He doesn’t respect the next head of the house and manipulates the FL into accepting him as her “slave” (personal knight) by exploiting her pity and naivety. He even complains about her not spending time with him while he’s on duty. I don’t understand how people develop second ML syndrome over him—he’s just annoying to me. That said, he does get major character development after the FL “releases” him, which is why he’s not my least favorite.

With all these flaws, you’d wonder why I haven’t dropped the story. The answer is simple: the ML is one of the best in the genre. He’s stoic and blunt but not cold or rude. Even when he initially dislikes the FL (for valid reasons), he never treats her with contempt. The rudest thing he does is ignore her when she visits him at the academy—which is understandable, as that’s his safe space. After that, he respects her as the head of the house. Yes, he works behind the scenes since he is the rightful owner and aims to reclaim his position, but he never sabotages her. He observes, assesses that she’s not a threat, and then fully trusts her. He’s respectful, and even when she disrespects him, he continues to prove himself. He’s smart, capable, and cunning. He may not be great at communication, but he tries. He has a distinct personality and isn’t just a foil to the FL. Honestly, he shines so much that her flaws become even more obvious.

The story also lacks a strong villain. The crown princess had so much potential—she literally killed the emperor and became empress herself. She wasn’t driven by romance but by power and ambition. I don’t understand why the FL couldn’t strike a deal with her to become the most powerful woman. Instead, the FL sabotages her, and she retaliates. She nearly succeeds in killing the FL, but then the author dumb her down and kills her off. It’s such wasted potential, all for the sake of the “fate cannot be changed” narrative.

One unique aspect is that the original FL isn’t evil. She’s actually quite interesting and could have been more compelling than the main FL if given more screen time. Unfortunately, she ends up paired with the second ML.

Overall, the story is disappointing. It’s an easy read if you want something you don’t have to think too much about. It had a lot of potential when it was first released. It’s long overdue for an ending, but at least it hasn’t been axed.

I kinda want to rant but I fear that her fans are going to come at me lol. I just can’t deal with her always saying cryptic depressing bs. I thought Shinichi has the worst case of Chuunibyo but she takes the cake.

We all remember that episode where the victim was brutally dismembered and the show made a point of showing her head falling off. Are there any other episodes that come close to being this gory?

There are two main types of villains in the OI genre: the stupidly, comically evil type (side villains) and the two-faced, comically evil type (main villains). Both are annoying and lazy. Why can’t we have more villains with nuance or understandable reasons for their actions? Or at least a villain who is genuinely terrifying or tragic?
Off the top of my head, one of the most compelling villains for me is from My In-Laws Are Obsessed With Me, specifically, the stepmother. She’s not your typical evil stepmom. She’s very sweet and kind, and she treats the FL like her own child. I’d argue she treats the FL better than many mothers do IRL. >!She’s genuinely good to her; it isn't until the FL’s marriage in her previous life that she shows her true colors.!<
>!To this day, I’m still not sure if her actions were all just a big, fat lie or not. I can’t imagine acting like you genuinely care for someone you supposedly want to kill for over 10 years. She literally exhibits no real red flags that the FL can recall before her marriage, and it’s beautifully tragic.!<

It’s sad that I can only recall one villain who stuck with me out of the hundreds of manhwas and mangas I've read. Most villains are just a looming threat, yet they rarely have any real impact. They can be easily dealt with the second the FL stops being naive or gains a little more power.

I’ve been avoiding this story for a while because I was (and still am) salty that it isn’t in manga format, even though it’s from Japan.

I haven’t finished it yet, so I can’t really say whether the story is good or not, but I kind of love the characters. The comments are shitting on the ML so much, but he’s actually really funny. He’s definitely an asshole, a jerk, a privileged, ignorant fool, but idk, he’s hilarious to me. The chemistry between the FL and ML helps a lot too, because she doesn’t cower in fear and actually calls out his attitude. But she can’t do the same with her evil in-laws, which is why the ML gets so annoyed with her.

He’s the type where you know deep down he’s not that bad, but you also kind of want to strangle him.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that he’s really refreshing compared to all these typical obsessive MLs. I’m just bored of MLs who exist only as tools for the FL, with barely any personality. He’s also not your typical infuriating ML who hates the FL until almost the very end, only to get trampled and end up groveling to her to make the audience feel better. He respects the FL and still manages to be a jerk to her because they both have their own goals and personalities.

I’m excited for his character development, but I hope he doesn’t become all kind and loving once he realizes he’s in love with her, because that would be boring. I want them to keep bickering until the very end lol.

I’m re-watching seasons 4–6, and they are so good. But when I try watching the newer seasons, they are just boring. Idk maybe it's because there are too many characters or the censorship has become too much. Either way, I’m looking for your favorite episode from recent years.

And let me just rant a bit. How could Ran figure out that Conan is Shinichi in the older seasons, got manipulated, and never figure it out again? I love those episodes where she ‘knew’.
