So I found out I was pregnant about a week ago (currently 4+3) and had my first beta on May 1 and second on May 4. The results were low and slow so my fertility clinic had concerns and we did a third beta today. It more than doubled and they're happy with the number so they advised that the next step is an ultrasound, but I had asked if they thought I should do one more beta. The doctor didn't initially think it was necessary but, since I asked for one, she requisitioned one final beta for May 8. My ultrasound should be scheduled in two weeks (at 6 weeks of pregnancy). The rationale for not originally scheduling a fourth beta was the ultrasound is the actual way to determine where the pregnancy is, not another beta. The concern with my numbers is a possible ectopic.
My dilemma now is whether I should even do the beta on May 8. Having the first two betas be low and slow stressed me out quite a bit. Since the fertility clinic advised that the ultrasound is really the only way to know if it's ectopic, is it even worth doing the fourth betas? I know if it's positive, it will reassure me and I will feel great, but if it's a negative outcome I will probably be in a low mood until my ultrasound.
Anyhow, sorry for the long post! I'm so conflicted!! I would love the reassurance on May 8 that my HCG levels are doubling but at the same time, is blissful ignorance better so I don't stress out until the ultrasound. Thoughts or personal experiences are welcome!
Betas are as follows:
May 1 - 37
May 4 - 88
May 6 - 200
