My 17f bestfriend’s sister told me her boyfriend hit her for the first time. What do i do?
Sorry if this post is unusual to reddit terms but i dont know what else to do. Its my first time posting on reddit and im really nervous so sorry for any mistakes. So as the title says my bestfriend’s sister, ill call the sister Emma, told me her boyfriend, ill call the boyfriend john, hit her for the first time. For background information Emma is early 20s and i believe her john is around 30+? And this happened a few weeks ago at this point but ive been so scared i dont know what to do. They have been dating on and off for quite a while now (I know this from my friend) and before Emma confided in me they didnt seem to be in a healthy relationship. To start from the top i guess i was at a basketball game where i saw Emma with him, they were sitting together on the bleachers. I had believed them to be broken up at that point but i dont know if that matters. So later that night I needed a ride home and messaged Emma and she said she could pick me up. When she does we were just chilling and listening to music. She asks me to go for a ride for company and i said yes because i wasnt in a rush. As we were just cruising around she starts talking about John and honestly i have forgot most of the lead up to the point of the conversation when she tells me. But from what I remember, she gets into how they had an arguement over something (I dropped off something for her one time and saw her crying) and i think thats how it get brought up. The arguement was about how he hit her. He was apparently drunk and pulled her by her hair and then decided to hit her but with her own hands. She says she has documented him yelling in the past and she has photos from the bruising. But when she was telling me this information she didnt seem upset or unstable but angry. She talked about it as if she was staying with him. She said something like how this information could ruin him and stuff. So it wasnt like she was confiding in me for help, but like it was normal maybe? And I didnt know how to react so i just agreed with everything she said, i let her continue on like it was “normal” relationship drama. And i think thats everything from that night but i just dont know what to do. I know i shouldve told someone by now but im just so scared. She is my bestfriends sister. And im scared both will be angry at me and i know my feelings shouldnt matter more and they dont. But im so confused. Everytime I think about it i cry. I dont know how to come about telling someone. Do i tell her family? The cops? Some other trusted adult? Im sorry this is so all ovet the place but im leaving tomorrow for a short trip and i just want some advice how to go about this. And im sorry if this is inappropriate for this website but i really really need help.
