Bunch of old cards

Ivey been using apps figuring out values but seems like it they vary wildly depending on condition and I’m no expert. Any input appreciated! These are just a few examples of nicer cards I’ve photographed so far but seems like they all are relatively similar quality minus the gengar, little bit of something on the edges of the cards and that’s about it.

Would appreciate input as a newbie!

Age old story - found my old collection and now trying to figure out what’s worth grading and what’s worth selling raw. Did a lot of research myself, and have plenty of valuable cards but also plenty that the TCG app put between $5-$15 lightly played. Does anyone have a “cutoff” they like to use when deciding if something is worth grading?

Also curious for any input on how hard I could get dinged on what I think is called whitening on cards.. lots of old cards that have some level of whitening like this jolteon.

Also curious about this gengar and dragonite since they’re probably the most valuable cards if they were perfect. Gengar is fine except this crease, does that immediately make it like a 6 or below in your experiences? Dragonite added for fun :)

Found my old Yugioh cards

Newbie Q but I only ever hear of Pokémon cards getting graded but I know yugioh cards do as well so figuring out what to do with many that apparently have at least some value. Most I’ll probably just sell raw but these seem like they could be valuable, been sleeved probably for 15-20 years (I don’t remember when it came out / the tv show was on). Would appreciate any insight into whether these could be worth sending in!

PS I looked some stuff up, realize these aren’t 1st edition minus the dark magician so maybe not crazy valuable even if they’re 10s

Figuring out scratches and whitening (newbie Q)

I’ve looked through some posts and gotten some helpful info + looked at eBay but I guess I’m trying to figure out how severe some scratches or “whitening” (?) may actually affect grading. Context: found my old collection and deciding what to sell raw and what to grade then sell.

So here’s some examples of what I’m trying to evaluate. I have a lot of solid older cards but many have some of the what I think you call whitening to some degree visible on the backs of cards (see the dark jolteon back) - how severe is that? Another example is the Japanese card which is an entei thing or something.

The gengar is pretty good but has that crease which idk how severe that is - affects a few cards so wondering about that.

Then lastly with the dragonite it seems all around solid so figured that was a good one to grade? I read to use centering apps and visibly inspect to really make a decision, so I’m starting there but would like input on how severely to “self grade”

Ok last question of all this is.. at what point does it become too risky to grade. Like if I have a card that maybe would go for $10 raw and is in pretty solid condition - maybe better to just sell with a group of other cards raw and not bother paying and hoping for a 10? Any input is helpful!
