So I’ve been rewatching Dragon Quest and something’s been bugging me…

Was Fluttershy actually in the wrong for not wanting to go to the dragon migration?

On one hand, I get that she’s scared—but didn’t she already face her fear of dragons back in Dragonshy? That’s what makes it feel a little inconsistent to me.

Also, Rainbow Dash sat through the butterfly migration for her, even though she clearly found it boring. That felt like a “friends show up for each other” moment. So shouldn’t Fluttershy have at least tried to return the favor?

Or is this more about personal boundaries vs. obligation? Like, is it fair to expect someone to do something they’re genuinely uncomfortable with just because you did something for them?

Curious what you all think—was this a plot hole, or just realistic character behavior?

I will not let you down, captain.😭

Please do your best to return from Rescue Island. No matter what people say, you’re still the captain of the Aiden Force. 🫡 🫡 🫡

I want to say something about Videl…

When Videl is first introduced, she’s tough, headstrong, and a bit of a tomboy, growing up surrounded by fame as Mr. Satan’s daughter. She’s stubborn and fiery—honestly, not that different from Chi-Chi. She even blackmails Gohan into entering the World Tournament and teaching her how to fly. Over time, though, she falls for him because of his kindness and sincerity, and eventually becomes his wife and Pan’s mother.

After that, her personality naturally softens. She becomes more caring and maternal, and her tone is calmer compared to her earlier, more aggressive attitude. But here’s the thing I don’t understand: why do so many people dislike this version of Videl in Dragon Ball Super?

From what I see, she didn’t become “worse”—she just changed. She stepped away from active martial arts and chose to focus on her family. So what? People act like that’s a bad thing, but it’s really just character development. Not every strong character has to stay loud and combative forever. Sometimes growth means becoming more grounded.

And it’s not like she suddenly became weak. Videl was trained in martial arts from a young age and proved she could hold her own—just look at her fight with Spopovich. Even in Super, she still contributes in meaningful ways, like helping Goku achieve Super Saiyan God. She’s also shown to be emotionally strong and mature, especially during the Barry Kahn situation. Instead of jumping to conclusions or acting childish, she trusts Gohan completely and calls Barry out for being pathetic. That alone shows how much she’s grown.

Honestly, that’s one of the most respectable things about her. She acts like a mature adult in a relationship, which is refreshing compared to how some anime handles misunderstandings.

Character change like this happens all the time in real life. People grow up, priorities shift, and personalities evolve. If a character starts off rough or rebellious and later becomes calmer and more nurturing, that doesn’t mean they’ve been “ruined”—it means they’ve developed.

Videl was never a damsel in distress, and she still isn’t. She just toned things down. And realistically, if someone threatened her family, I don’t doubt for a second that her tougher side would come right back out.

Also, considering that Akira Toriyama worked closely with Toyotarō on Dragon Ball Super, it’s safe to assume this direction for Videl wasn’t accidental. Whether it was Toriyama’s idea or Toyotarō expanding on it, neither of them seemed to have an issue with her settling into a peaceful family life.

As for Dragon Ball GT, I’m not counting it here since it wasn’t directly based on Toriyama’s manga and has its own issues.

At the end of the day, I actually like Videl’s portrayal in Dragon Ball Super. She’s a great example that characters can evolve. Not everyone needs to stay the same forever—some get stronger, some mellow out, and some just grow into a different phase of life. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

Does anyone else have the impression that she might be nerfed and thrown in the trash in the future?

I don’t know why, I just feel that way…

Hi everyone, I watched the entire series of Dragon Ball. The original, Z, GT, Kai, Super, Daima, and even Abridged and regrettably Heroes. I even read every fan manga as well. If you have Dragon Ball stuff to recommend or another series that is just as good, that would be nice.
