Edit to add it's not a bad ignition coil we just tested that.
We just got a 2001 arctic cat 500. When we got it he started it up no problem and seemed fine. But when we got it home it was hard to start it and keep it running, adjusting the choke helped but still would die. So we replaced the carburetor. We also cleaned out the gas tank and fished out what looked like a leaf in there.
We took it out and it ran better but not much. It does get really hot, and after riding for a short time it would lose power. So after googling we replaced the petcock valve and changed the oil and filter because we smelled gas in it. We replaced the spray plug as well. We're running regular unleaded in it because that was what was recommended.
Anyone have problems like this? What else should we do? I take appreciate any help.
