my camera sometimes works but mostly dosent

I’ve had this camera for a few weeks now (gift from a friend). I have no idea what the problem with it maybe be but only one in every handful of photos actually takes. i have to turn it on the off and on a whole range of settings before anything actually clicks and whirs. i have the confirmation of the few times it works from the counter on top. please help 🙏🙏

i’ve always been a cheesecake fan so when i saw some cream cheese in the fridge and remembered the syrup in the cupboard i decided to test it out. so voila cheesecake bagel! its was very yummy - 8/10
