Stupid question. Is it possible to mess the unique characters?

I'm currently replaying Disgaea 5, and like in every Disgaea game I play, since I don't fully understand the mechanics and their caps, I generally left the protagonists and all the other unique characters (Nisa, Pleinair, etc.) aside. And by that I mean no reincarnations, no chara world and all that, in fear I could ruin them forever beyond repair (their grow in stats and aptitudes)

I don't have an issue with the characters I can recruit, because I always can get a new one If I feel I messed up with something

Repost of this one with additional details

Platform(s): Arcade

Genre: Beat'em up

Estimated year of release: 90s

Graphics/art style: 2D

Notable characters: One of the available characters was a robot, the rest were humans. THIS DETAIL MAY NOT BE PRECISE but I think the robot looked a bit like a C3PO rip-off, or at least that was what I as a small kid thought

Notable gameplay mechanics: The special attack (the one that consumes part of the life bar) of the robot was exploding into pieces and then reassembling

One stage (not all of them) had the characters running automatically. Think of this kind of stage

But rather than riding a bike like in Contra, the characters were simply running

Free movement (in the sense it was not locked in a strict 2D plane), you could move around the stage like in Battle Circuit or Cadillacs and Dinossaurs.

Games that were suggested in the other thread, but are not the game I'm looking

Alien Storm

Guardians / Denjin Makai II?

Eight Man

Captain Commando

Ninja Warriors

Armored Warriors

Battle Circuit
