
An essential oil container pulled the finish off of this dresser top. It’s not an old piece - it’s from West Elm - but I figured you might have some advice.
I really don’t want to sand the whole top. Good enough is good enough.
Maybe it’s just shellac that was weakened by alcohol in the essential oil? I can’t really figure out the reaction that damaged the finish.
It definitely removed the topcoat as I can feel the ridges on the lighter areas.
Anyone have any insight on what kind of finish this might be?
