Glaucoma in Shiba Inu
Tobi, my 5 year old, 33lb, otherwise healthy Shiba Inu, suddenly developed glaucoma in his left eye May 2nd.
We brought him to the vet, and they confirmed he did have glaucoma and sent us home with 2 different eye drops to do 5x/day.
We had success with the drops for the first few days. But he is very skiddish, reactive and gets aggressive with being touched, so the eye drops have gotten more difficult. Today I haven’t been able to get a single one in.
I scheduled surgery to remove his eye this week Thursday, but now I feel like his eye isn’t bothering him as much or is getting better? I’m not sure if I’m just used to the way it looks now. But I don’t want to remove his eye if we don’t have to. I also don’t want him to be in long term pain or have his eye explode.
He is not yet blind. Doing the drops everyday long term is just not realistic with how difficult he is.
Is removing his eye already over treating? Or is it only a matter of time that it will get really bad again anyways and we would be prolonging his pain?
