What takes so long?

I’ve seen post about how peoples work comps “settlements“ lasted over a year plus but why does that happen? I’m not sure if settlement is the right word but I’m guessing they're talking about getting paid an amount they find reasonable. What takes so long?

Do they take long because people are appealing their rating or asking for more? Is it extra treatment that drags things out?

After you do your MMI/IR what happen? Does the doctor usually tell there in the moment your rating and how much they’ll offer? Does the offer come in the mail?

Im 6 months post op from leg/ankle/foot surgery, completed PT, and I’ll have my 2nd surgery to remove a screw from my foot hopefully early next week. I’m suppose to have an MMI/IR too, probably after the 2nd surgery.

Has anyone pursued other ways of getting your treatment paid for? Like if workers comp closed your case or refused to pay for more treatment, did you try and sue them?

Im at a point where workers comp is going to evaluate me for max recovery and give me an impairment rating. When I last saw my surgeon he mentioned we could do a 2nd surgery to remove the screw in my foot since it still causes me pain. I’m worried work comp will try to close it and not pay for 2nd surgery. An attorney mentioned I could pursue a premise liability case since I fell in the parking lot after I clocked out.

Im jus worried how this will impact my workers comp and my job overall. Im sure they’ll try to fire me after I sue them.
