Last year I started making iron-on patches. After a little research, I found that HeatnBond Ultra Hold was a common adhesive to use so I tried that. The customer called to say the patches were not adhering and after some trial and error, we learned that lowering the heat made a difference. (She was placing them on cotton/poly blend hoodie for her band students)

Fast forward, she ordered more this year and mentioned the ones from last year had either fallen off or were hanging on by a thread. I feel like I should make them again for her but this time, want to make sure they adhere and STAY for a long time. I'd also like to perfect my technique so I can openly offer patches.

My questions:

  1. What is the best iron-on adhesive to use for the item to last through several washes?
  2. I contour cut and place the adhesive on last, is there a better technique?
  3. Does density/thickness of the patch make a difference?
  4. If not an iron-on, is it better to use a fabric glue and if so, which one?

Thanks in advance.

This sounds like a dumb question but when watching tutorials, I haven’t seen a single one that mentions it. First time attempting Velcro patches and it seems simple enough but when attaching the Velcro backing to the patch, do I also cut the other side of the Velcro to give to the customer? Maybe with backing for them to iron on or to sew on if they’d like?

Everything I’ve seen only shows the one side being made for the actual patch. But how will the customer attach it?

Thanks.
