What's a word or phrase someone used once that you now use all the time without realizing where it came from?

Language is so contagious and I don't think we notice how much we pick up from specific people until suddenly it's just part of how we talk

Owning a house sounded great until everything started breaking nonstop

I live by myself in a small house out in the suburbs. It’s not tiny or anything. There’re 3 bedrooms, decent yard, quiet street and way more space than one person really needs. The problem is I’m barely even here during the week because work is closer to the city, so most of the time I only really “live” in this house on weekends.

Besides somehow every single time I come back late from work, something is broken. It’s like an unwritten law of my house

I swear this place is held together with duct tape, prayers, and plumber invoices

My shower leaks and the kitchen faucet makes some weird noises like it was about to launch into orbit. The water heater only works when it feels spiritually motivated to do so. At this point hot water feels less like a utility and more like a holiday event…

In addition, I’ve got leaking pipes near the water meter…I’ve heard it can cause more problems later on, but I’m so tired of spending my weekends dealing with repairs instead of actually relaxing

I’ve probably paid enough to local plumbers to put one of their kids through college, so they kinda owe me…

And the worst part is, the local plumber is ALWAYS busy now. Every time he answers my call I can practically hear him thinking, Oh God, not you again

Lately I’ve been wondering if owning a house just doesn’t make sense for me anymore. I don’t need all this space, I’m never home, and this place seems determined to fall apart one pipe at a time. I’m thinking about selling it and moving into an apartment where if something leaks, it’s officially somebody else’s problem

I even look at cash sale options because I’m not even sure I have the energy to renovate this place to make it look welcoming. Saw that jdub buys houses and I’m ready to take whatever decent offer comes first before the house falls apart

Night leg cramps were ruining my sleep for two years...

Every day or two for 2 years. Sudden, painful spasms in your calves that wake you up at 3 am, forcing you to walk around until they subside.

Here's what I have tried:

  • Stretching before going to bed provided some results, but they were not constant.
  • More fluid consumption. I was hydrated well enough already; nothing changed.
  • Taking potassium, in my case, eating bananas daily for 3 months, yielded no results whatsoever.
  • Compression socks are too uncomfortable to wear regularly.

Going down the rabbit hole, I found myself having a magnesium deficiency, which causes muscle cramps. It is almost impossible for an average person to fix this issue with regular magnesium supplements because of the form: magnesium oxide, which is used by the vast majority of cheaper companies, does not absorb properly and only causes digestive issues.

However, magnesium glycinate absorbs perfectly. After researching buffered versus unbuffered forms, I chose MAGSUPPS because it does not contain magnesium oxide.

In two weeks, I completely stopped experiencing nighttime cramps. At the moment, being 4 months into the deal, I have had only one cramp.

My GP basically waved off the problem, saying that some people get cramps sometimes.

I genuinely don't understand why this isn't the first thing a GP mentions. If you're dealing with this and haven't specifically tried a pure magnesium glycinate, be attentive, not magnesium oxide, not a cheap supermarket blend, try it before resigning yourself to this being permanent.

how do people keep their skin hydrated without feeling greasy?

i genuinely feel like every time i try to properly hydrate my skin i end up looking greasy by the middle of the day. especially once moisturizer and spf are layered together. the confusing part is that my skin still somehow feels dehydrated underneath even when it looks shiny on the surface
so then i never know if i actually need more hydration or if im already overdoing it. ive tried lighter moisturizers gel textures using less product waiting between layers and somehow i still havent found that balance where my skin feels hydrated without looking heavy or oily a few hours later. social media makes it seem like everyone has perfectly glowy hydrated skin but sometimes i honestly cant tell the difference between healthy glow and just looking greasy anymore. for people who figured this out what actually helped you keep your skin hydrated while still feeling lightweight and fresh during the day?

She left a message about returning a library book. Nothing important. But the way she said "hello sweetheart" at the beginning just felt nice. So I played it again. Sat on the couch and just let it be there. Simple little thing.

Does anyone else replay boring voice messages just for the sound of someone's voice?

even before alex left the show i always had this feeling that izzie never fully left him emotionally. not in the dramatic obsessed way but more like one of those relationships that permanently changes someone no matter how much time passes. there were little moments throughout later seasons where it felt like she was still somewhere in the back of his mind even if he barely talked about her anymore. and honestly i think part of why the ending didnt completely shock me is because of that feeling
as much as i liked alex and jo together there was always something unfinished about alex and izzie to me. they went through so much together during such an intense period of their lives that it felt unrealistic for that relationship to just disappear emotionally forever. especially considering how much izzie changed him as a person compared to who he was at the beginning of the show. i know a lot of people hated the way alex left and i completely understand why but when i really think about his character over the years part of me feels like it kind of made sense emotionally even if the execution was messy
does anyone else feel like alex never fully moved on from izzie even long before the ending happened?

Has anyone here actually managed to sell a house that’s kind of… past its prime?

I’ve basically been tied to my parents’ place my whole life in one way or another. I grew up there, left for college, moved into my own rental after that. Then life happened… and I lost my job and ended up moving back in with them for a while

Since then, things have changed a lot. Both of my parents have passed away, and now I’m still stuck in this house all by myself

I wanna say it’s way too big for one person, and honestly it’s been slowly falling apart over the years. The roof leaks in a couple of spots, plumbing is unreliable, and there’s just a lot of old furniture and other clutter everywhere that I never really had the heart or time to deal with properly

At the moment, I work remotely and have been with the same company for over a year, but recently they offered me a promotion that would actually require moving to an office in another state. and I wanna be honest that part of me feels like that’s the push I needed to finally move on from here.

But this house isn’t in a condition where you just list it and wait for a lovely family to come and fall in love with it. Fixing everything up would cost a fortune, and I don’t really have that kind of money or energy to do it right now. Renting it out isn’t realistic either without investing in some major repairs first.

I found something like ready door homes offers and started wondering if selling it for cash might actually be the simplest way out and just to close this chapter, have some funds to relocate, rent for a while in the new state, and maybe eventually start fresh with something smaller and more manageable.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Is selling a house like this even realistic, or am I being too hopeful here?

We recently started working with clients outside the US, and one thing I completely underestimated was how complicated legal translation can get. Contracts, NDAs, service agreements. You know… at first I assumed it was mostly about translating text accurately, but it turns out wording matters a lot more when legal meaning is involved. Especially when you aren’t a lawyer at all, and even reading it in your language can sound confusing.

We initially tried using a freelance translator we found through a marketplace because the pricing seemed reasonable. The translation looked fine in the beginning, but when one of our overseas clients reviewed the agreement with their lawyer, they pointed out several phrases that were technically correct but let’s say, legally ambiguous in their country

That made me realize legal translation is very different from marketing or website content. Small wording differences can completely change interpretation, especially across jurisdictions.

Now I’m looking into agencies instead of individual freelancers because I’d rather have a process with review and specialization. I’ve been considering Ad Verbum since they seem to work with business and legal translations specifically, but I’m still comparing options.

Curious how others handle this, do you rely on agencies, legal translators, or local lawyers to review everything before sending documents internationally?

before looking into Spain i honestly assumed Barcelona would automatically be my favorite because thats the city everyone talks about the most but the more travel posts and comments i read the more i keep seeing people say they unexpectedly liked madrid more. now im curious what made people feel that way. was it the atmosphere food nightlife people overall vibe or just the fact that it felt less touristy?
Barcelona obviously looks beautiful but madrid seems like one of those places that grows on you once youre actually there. for people who visited both which one ended up being your favorite and why? trying to decide how to split my time between them and now im way more undecided than before

▲ 2 r/cafe

One of the weirdest little crises we had at the café ended up being about… cup lids of all things.

We completely ran out right before a Friday rush, which is basically worst-case timing for us. Fridays are always chaos and everyone suddenly wants their coffee to go, nobody’s hanging around, and it feels like the whole city is pre-gaming the weekend with caffeine.

That night I decided that it’s time to find a new supplier. Not just to fix the immediate problem, but because I was already getting kind of fed up with the lids we were using like they’d pop off, leak, customers would complain, the usual. I looked into switching everything, maybe even cups too if I could find someone who does custom designs.

Saw WF Wholesale somewhere in that late-night search and figured I’d at least check them out as one of the options. Honestly, I just needed a quick fix at first, but their lids ended up being noticeably better than what we had.

It’s funny how something so small can actually make a difference when you’re pumping out hundreds of coffees a day. We haven’t had nearly as many complaints since.

I swear something shifted with my skin the second I hit 30. In my twenties I could use pretty much anything. I used to buy random drugstore products, strong exfoliants, whatever was on sale, and my skin barely reacted. I was one of those annoying people who didn’t really have to think about skincare beyond washing my face and dealing with the occasional dark circles after a few late nights

But over the last couple of years, my skin has become too sensitive to anything. It gets dry, irritated, sometimes red for no obvious reason, and every now and then I’ll break out even though I’m using products that used to work perfectly fine. The saddest part is that some of my old staples don’t just stop working and they actually make my skin aggressive now, almost like I’ve developed mini allergies to my entire bathroom shelf

I went to a dermatologist because I was tired of playing skincare roulette, and she basically told me I need to rethink my entire routine and focus on gentler products

I’ve been looking at Synergie Skin since I’ve heard decent things about it, even though it’s definitely pricier than what I usually buy. At this point I’m willing to spend a little more if it means my face stops feeling like it’s constantly picking a fight with me.

Did anyone else suddenly develop super sensitive skin after turning 30?
