Day 100: Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Capri in Love

Light Blue Capri in Love is a fragrance that I have loved from the first time I smelled it in an Ulta last fall. It is a light mix of a fig & pepper with a nice background note of patchouli. As it dries down these notes stay the same in both balance & strength as the opening. There is a tiny bit of sweetness in here but it feels more like it isn’t a note that was added but rather as part of the fig note. Interestingly I get tiny hints of citrus from Light Blue Capri in Love if I don’t spray it in my skin, on paper & my clothing the citrus is there but as soon as I spray it on my skin the citrus vanished entirely.

On the perfomace side Light Blue Capri in Love is quite good. For longevity it lasts just under 8 hours on my skin & about the same amount of time on my clothing. A 7/10 for longevity. The projection is good but not nuclear, it rises strongly off my skin for the first 3 hours, staying just inside my arms length. After this is faded down to a fairly close skin scent that vanished entirely in the last 30 minutes of its lifespan. A 6/10 for projection.

I really really enjoy Light Blue Capri in Love; it’s simple but in a very pleasant & unique way. The fruity fig note is definitely the highlight of this fragrance and I’m fairly confident it was meant to be this way. Overall it is a 9/10 for me; that said I wouldn’t wear it in the summer. It is definitely a fall & spring scent primarily that could work in the winter but most likely to heavy for those hot summer days.

Day 99: Initio Absolute Aphrodisiac EDP

Absolute Aphrodisiac is strangely boring but in a quite pleasing way. The opening has a this deep but mildly animistic musky leather note with a strong sweetness over the top of it that carries hints of vanilla & powder. After about 15 minutes all of Absolute Aphrodisiac has mellowed out into a continuous combined note of that has reversed entirely in its scent profile. The sweet powder & vanilla is strongest with a hint of floral in it and the animistic musky leather note has faded to far into the background with only tiny wafts reaching my nose occasionally.

Absolute Aphrodisiac unfortunately was a bit of a letdown on the performance side in regards to projection but it had great longevity. It lasted just under 12 hours on my skin and stuck to my clothes for over 24 hours. A 8/10 for longevity. The projection was the disappointing side; Absolute Aphrodisiac just didn’t project almsot at all. It started off nicely, getting a couple feet off my skin, radiating inside my arms length. It only stayed this way until it dried down, about 15 to 20 minutes. After this it crashed down to a tight skin scent; and stayed this way for the next 11 and a half hours. A 1/10 for projection.

Absolute Aphrodisiac smells quite good but at the end of the day as a fragrance it’s just not good because it just has absolutely no projection on my skin. I couldn’t smell it for 99% of its life without my noise directly on my skin or clothing. It’s a 2/10 overall, it’s a really good scent. It’s falling in my eyes are being a fragrance due to not being wearable.

Day 98: Paradox Bat Tequila EDP

Bat Tequila is fascinating on the opening; it definitely doesn’t smell anything like tequila & I’m pretty sure it doesn’t smell anything like bats. On the opening it is an extremely clean and bright smelling fragrance accompanied by a strong sweet but lightly spicy cinnamon sugar note with hints of musk & floral along with very light citrus. As it dries down it unfortunately looses a lot of the depth and complexity, within the first 30 minutes. It then becomes a clean bright fragrance with musk.

The performance on Bat Tequila is unfortunately where the ball is dropped almost entirely. The longevity is horrendous, barely making it to 2 hours of wear time on my skin. A 1/10 for longevity. The projection is good but only for the first 45 minutes to an hour before it has almost vanished entirely into my skin. The strongest the projection gets is a foot off my skin. A 2/10 for projection.

Unfortunately Bat Tequilla is getting a 3/10 overall. I love the complexity and mix of notes in the opening but they just aren’t sustained at all. The bright clean fragrance mixed with the cinnamon sugar note is unique from anything else I’ve tried so far & beautiful. It just doesn’t have enough life to wear, all the parts that make it worth wearing are gone in the first 30 minutes and the rest of it is gone in the next 90.

Day 97: Etat Libre d'Orange Divin' Enfant

Divin’ Enfant opens with a slightly strange but pleasant powdery note; I say this because it is the standard powdery almost baby powder like note but there is something slightly cool, almost water & wet in it. There are also strong notes of musk. As it dries down a little there is a laundry esque floral note that gets stronger. Unfortunately there is a note in Divin’ Enfant that as it sits on my skin takes on an unpleasant bitter slightly sour note.

Performance on Divin’ Enfant is fairly weak in both longevity and projection. The longevity is quite low, only lasting 4 hours on my skin. A 3/10 for longevity. The projection is never more then slightly above skin scent; with the slightly above only being right at the initial application. More accurately Divin’ Enfant is a semi close skin scent that fades within an hour to an extremely close skin scent. A 2/10 for projection.

I really want to like Divin’ Enfant but it just doesn’t quite work for me, the note that goes bitter/sour is the most offputting part of it to me. The performance doesn’t help it’s case much, low longevity and extremely week projection just aren’t good selling points for wear. Overall it’s a 2/10 from me. It is future hurt in my eyes due to all the most interesting notes that Divin’ Enfant, the ones I was most excited about, never appear even as just hints. I would have loved to smell the marshmallow, tobacco, coffee, and leather notes. Instead at the end Divin’ Enfant was a very musky laundry like floral fragrance.

Day 96: Emporio Armani Stronger With You Parfum

Strong with You Parfum was a very surprising fragrance; it is an extremely mature and reserved. It’s a dark warm spicy opening with a strong vanilla and nutty background notes. As it dries down it keeps a very similar profile but a pleasent floral hint rises to the surface and the vanilla note lightens. The spice notes are extremely plesent as well, I really appreciate the lightness of the cinnamon in particular.

The performance on Stronger with You Parfum is great but just slightly shy of incredible. On the longevity side I got right around 8 hours on my skin, maybe 8.5 at max. Interestingly Strong with You Parfum is sticking to my clothes incredibly well, lasting well over 24 hours so far but without much projection. A 7/10 for longevity. The projection on Stronger with you Parfum is very liner, decreasing from initial application to the end of its life. Starting off with immensely strong projection in the room I applied it but tapering down over the first how to projection a couple feet around me, just slightly inside my arms length. From there it slowly faded down to a skin scent by hour 7 and was gone between hour 8 & 8.5. A 9/10 for projection.

Strong with You Parfum is incredible, it’s a very mature but not overpowering spicy dark nutty vanilla fragrance without a ton of sweetness. It feels like a very pleasent evolution of the sweet spicy vanilla fragrances. It’s a 9/10 overall for me and one I would definitely wear again, either in the winter or at night. It makes me very excited for the rest of the Stronger with You line.

Moon Tale is a shocking disappointment, even more because opening & the first 20 to 30 minutes have an incredible scent profile but there is a floral note that goes from pleasent to strong, then to overpowering, finally ending on bad and mildly headache inducing. It also blocks out every other note in the Moon Tale. The opening is a gorgeous fresh clean note with strong hints of multiple florals, but none of these notes stick around.

Performance on Moon Tale is extremely good but not shocking with how strong the floral note is. On the longevity side it lasted just under 9 hours on my skin & about 15 hours on my clothing. A 8/10 for longevity. The projection on Moon Tale is excessively strong, it fills whatever room you apply it in and radiates 5 or 6 feet off your person for the first 6 hours before slowly fading away after the next 3. A 9/10 for projection.

Moon Tale performed very well and has a very pleasant opening but that is unfortunately all the good I can say about it. The floral note that overpowers just isn’t pleasant at the strength it reaches. Interestingly I don’t think the floral note itself is in essence bad, it’s just turned up way to high and that in turn ruins the rest of Moon Tale entirely. At the end Moon Tale gets a 1/10, the floral note that is to strong just ruins it for me.

Molecule 04 is good in an unexpected way, based on all my previous experiences with sandalwood this is not the scent profile that I had been expecting. It’s a deep rich spicy note with woody undertones. It in all honesty has proven very hard for me to review because I think it smells good but at the same time there is just something about Molecule 04 that doesn’t appeal to me as a base note or layer.

On the performance side Molecule 04 failed to impress in either longevity or projection. The longevity was honestly quite poor, I got 3 and a half hours of total wear time on my skin. A 2/10 for longevity. The projection was very minimal, Molecule 04 never got more than an inch or two off my skin. A 1/10 for projection.

Molecule 04 smells good but it just doesn’t feel wearable to me as a fragrance, much less as a layer. I just don’t think it has the performance power needed to be worn along side another fragrance, I think most would cover it up and the ones that don’t are likely to outlast it. As a fragrance Molecule 04 gets a 3/10 just for smelling good and as a layer it gets a 1/10.

A note for anyone who plans to order the official samples from Escentric Molecules, the atomizer that is used has been absolutely horrible for me. It struggles to get a fine mist. Rather the fragrance comes out only slightly dispersed and semi stream like.

From the very beginning I’m questioning this fragrance being named White Musk. There is barely any musk at all, rather I am predominantly getting a strong sweet note with powder and floral in it. The musk that is there is in tiny hints and almost totally overpowered by the sweet note. It doesn’t smell bad but overall sweet, surprisingly feminine & very floral.

Perfomace wise White Musk fails to impress as well. On my skin it lasted 4 hours and maybe 2 hours max on my clothing. A 3/10 for longevity. The projection was never very good besides the first 30 minutes during which I could smell it rising pleasantly 6 inches to a foot off my skin but as soon as White Musk finished drying down this was entirely gone. It became a very close skin scent that I could only smell if I pressed my nose to my skin. A 2/10 for projection.

White Musk isn’t bad, I think it’s biggest failer is actually the name. Because there just isn’t really anything musk about it. It’s actually an overly sweet floral & powder fragrance with the tinniest hints of musk in it. Overall it gets a 3/10 for me, I really wish it had a lot more musk in it. Partially due to the name but more to cut down on the sweetness. For me White Musk is just way to sweet for me to wear, especially often.

On the opening of Ganymede, the metallic mineral note is what I notice first. It is strong in a plesent way, behind it there is a rich almost dark slightly burnt smokey balsamic spice note along with oud and a tiny bit of leather. As Ganymede dries down the notes stay identical to the opening with just the slightest fading of everything but the metallic mineral note & the smokey balsamic note. These two notes feel so closely intertwined here I think that the smokey balsamic note might be part of the metallic mineral note.

Ganymede performs nicely but not amazingly. On the longevity side it lasted just over 6 hours on my skin but surprisingly much much longer on clothing. It has lasted over 24 hours on my sweatshirt and seems inclined to last untill I wash it. A 6/10 for longevity. The projection on Ganymede is a bit low, besides the initial application and the 15 minute following it, I found it to be mostly a skin level scent. Seeming to settle at rising an inch, maybe 2 off my skin. A 6/10 for projection. While it’s projection is low and I would like a little more from it, I’m also glad it wasn’t extremely strong. I think Ganymede would suffer from projection if that was the case.

As a fragrance & scent I really liked Ganymede, the metallic mineral note is the best part and I am really glad the fragrance highlights that note. Overall Ganymede gets a 8/10 for me, it is unique in a way that I really enjoy. I love the mineral matallic note with the almost burnt balsamic smell to it. I would definitely wear it again, I think for me it would be a great fall scent.

Ombre Leather is an absolute gorgeous fragrance immediately on the opening. The leather note takes the lead but if beautifully complimented by a strong semi sweet floral note with a dark earthy note & strong patchouli note. The thing that stands out to me most however is the fact that the leather note is strong & fairly dominant without being at all harsh, unpleasant & not blocking out all of the others notes in the fragrance. This balance moves more leather heavy as it dries down but it is still very good.

On the performance side Ombre Leather is a strangely mixed bag. It is basically two different fragrances when it comes to projection has 3 hours that are super strong, radiating a good 3 or 4 feet around me and then another 7 that see it absolutely vanish into my skin, only rising a inche or less off it. A 4/10 for projection. The longevity is great in the technicall sense as it lasted 10 hours on my skin but only 3 of these hours actually saw strong performance, the rest was just a very close skin scent. A 4/10 for longevity as well.

Ombre Leather is a very good fragrance with unfortunate performance with longevity being technically good but hard to celebrate because for most of its life it projects so poorly it’s easily missed. I really enjoyed the more subtle leather note that made it easier to smell the rest of the note in the fragrance and gave them room to shine. Overall it’s a 5/10 for me, it smells good but performs shockly poorly for a fragrance that is so strong on the opening.

Eragon is a bunch of warm spices and vanilla on the opening, there are hints of citrus & patchouli in it as well but they are dominated by the spice and vanilla. The opening was a little strong and cloying for me but this only last about 15 minutes. As soon as Eragon dried down a bit a ton of the warm spices & vanilla notes just vanished but interestingly the citrus & patchouli notes don’t seem to have gotten any more prominent. All 4 of the notes have become nicely balanced and well blended. By the end of the first hour I like Eragon much more then I did in the opening, the citrus & patchouli, along with hints of earthiness, and a slightly sweet green note become more forward with the vanilla & spice taking more of a backseat.

On the performance side Eragon is decent. Longevity wise I got 6 hours on my skin and less on my clothing, maybe 4 hours. A 6/10 for longevity. The projection was surprisingly a bit weak, only projecting maybe 6 inches off my skin at its strongest but quickly quickly falling to a skin scent. The only time the projection was strong was when it was spice & vanilla heavy, as soon as these notes faded the projection crashed. A 3/10 for projection.

Eragon is a mixed bag for me; the first 30 minutes of wear time are not great. It is basically the same vanilla, sweet spice notes that are found in every fragrances that is in this groups. These notes aren’t necessarily bad but in Eragons opening they are cranked up to 11 in a way that isn’t pleasant. As Eragon dries down to the end of the first hour it improves drastically, the notes of patchouli & citrus, along with hints of a couple others; the notes that make Eragon good in my eyes come to the front. I wish Eragon started this way but after the first half hour to hour Eragon becomes enjoyable to me. Overall it’s a 6/10, I really appreciate the change away from the standard sweet vanilla spice notes the entire time. I just struggle personally to wear fragrances that I don’t enjoy for the first part.

Oud for Glory is very pleasant immediately on its opening; the first thing I noticed is that the oud is very smoothing, a bit subdued and surprisingly subtle. The musk is strong on the opening but in a very pleasant way as well, it pairs very nicely with the oud. As Oud for Glory dries down the oud & musk notes both take a step back, allowing for hints of metallic notes, patchouli, and florals to appear. There is also just the thinnest amount of spice present in both the opening & the dry down.

Oud for Glory has extreme longevity but somewhat low projection. Oud for Glory lasted just under 12 hours on my skin and 24+ on my clothing. A 8/10 for longevity. The projection is more suprising, for the first 3 hours it is extremely strong; projecting 2 or 3 feet around me. After these first 3 hours it crashes to a skin scent and after 2 or 3 more hours I can only smell it if I put my nose to my skin or clothing. A 6/10 for projection.

Oud for Glory is very enjoyable as a fragrance, the oud in particular I think is done very well. It’s not an extremely oud oud and if your looking for a very strong oud this isn’t the fragrance for you. It has a very mellow, approachable, easy wearing oud. The rest of the notes in here are well balanced and complementary nicely. Oud for Glory is an 8/10 overall for me, it has oud and nicely complimenting notes but it’s also an extremely easy reach. This is definitely more of an introduction to oud but I think it’s an extremely good one.

The first word that comes to mind to describe Outlands is potent, the second that comes to mind is heavy. The opening is a blast of warm calm spice & frankincense. As it dries down, the spice & frankincense step back allowing for a bit of citrus to show itself. There are also the slightest hints of floral, oud, and patchouli.

The longevity on Outlands is entirely insane, over 24 hours on my skin and the same on my clothing. A 10/10 for longevity, basically Outlands seems to last forever. I can still smell it on my clothing as I am writing this review and I’m pretty sure it’s only gone from my skin due to a shower this morning. On the projection side Outlands is very good but not nearly as insane as its longevity. For the first 8 to 10 hours it projects very strongly, at least outside my arms length and I’d say a foot or two more. After this is become a much closer scent, not down to a skin scent, but only 2 or 3 inches off my skin. It stays this way for quite a while longer, I’d say 9 to 10 hours before falling to a close skin scent for the last 2 or 3 hours of its life. Outlands gets a 9/10 for projection.

Outlands is a very good fragrance, it however feels quite limited in its use to me. Outlands is just so heavy I wouldn’t want to wear it on anything besides a super cold fall or spring day or in the wintertime. Combine this with how potent it is, I definitely wouldn’t want to wear it any type of confined space or to work. Outlands is a 6/10 for me overall, I really like the way it smells but the heaviness of it combined with it extreme longevity and strong projection I’m just having trouble thinking I would actually wear it often.

Purple Melancholia is just boring to my nose from its opening to the end of its lifespan. This is because all I really smell from it is coconut, at a couple moments there was the possibility of hints of the lavender but whatever hints where extremely fleeting. The coconut note itself is very nice; smelling slightly baked and sweet. It almost reminds me of coconut oil in a pan heating up.

Purple Melancholia performs quite well. On the longevity side it lasted just over 6 hours on my skin. It gets a 5/10 here. Projection was fairly mild, never getting close to outside arms length, at the strongest projecting around a foot off my skin. This was fairly consistent, lasting for 4 out of the 6 hours with the last two seeing it fade to a close skin scent. A 4/10 for projection.

While Purple Melancholia performs decently, at the end of the day it just smells purely likely coconut to me. While I don’t dislike coconut in fragrances and I can appreciate a basic fragrance. A singular note just can’t rank highly on its own for me, it’s a 2/10. The coconut is very pleasing and I quite like it, it just needs something else in it. The tiny wifs of floral notes I got aren’t enough for me to count them, mainly due to them being so faint. Now; If you want to add a coconut note to a fragrance, using Purple Melancholia as a layer; it is a 9/10. But as a fragrance on its own, it just isn’t getting the job done.

Lady Bird is in all honesty, a bit confusing to the nose on the opening. It smells like it is trying to be 3 fragrances in one all at the same time; this effect is interesting and fairly enjoyable but a bit heavy and strong at the same time. There are strong notes of musk & woody note there are also slightly lighter but still heavy notes of raspberry and floral along with something clean and just slightly laundry smelling.

The perfomace on Lady Bird is quite good but not too surprising with how heavy it is. Longevity is around 8 hours on my skin and way over 12 on my clothing, reaching at least 18. A 7/10 for longevity. The projection is strong as well, reaching out well beyond a couple feet of the feet 5 hours before fading out to only a couple inches off the skin till the end of its lifespan. A 9/10 here.

While the longevity on Lady Bird is very good, especially on clothing. I have been finding this with a couple fragrances for now and it is growing slightly frustrating. Especially in case like this where the fragrance ends up sticking to my outerwear since it means I end up smelling like a weird blend of fragrances the next day or have to wash my coat at least once to get the original fragrance out.

Lady Bird is a decent fragrance overall in my eyes, in particular I enjoy the floral and berry notes that are not very sweet but rather a little bitter. Especially the Raspberry, it seems very fitting and I wish that more fruity or floral fragrances had these notes in them. Lady Bird is getting a 7/10 overall from me with the caveat of being enjoyable & unique but I’m not sure how often I would wear it. It just seemed a bit much at times during my day of wear and to me it wears like a scent that definitely needs to be fall or spring, maybe winter but definitely not summer.
