Asian guy here.
One weird thing I’ve noticed is that stereotypes can make you almost invisible in this area. People can be dismissive or assume you couldn’t possibly be the biggest guy in the room purely because you’re Asian. Definitely experienced that in college.
But there’s also a strange satisfaction in being underestimated and flying under the radar. No one expects it, no one sees it coming, and it completely breaks the mental script people carry around.
At the same time, it’s interesting how strong stereotypes still are. Even when you know your own reality, society’s assumptions can still be obvious in how people joke, talk, or size others up.
Any other Asian guys here relate to liking the “incognito” aspect of it while also recognizing how dumb the stereotype is? How did you process it—ignore it, enjoy proving it wrong, or something else?
