kept losing way too much time to youtube and random scrolling so I made this for myself. It’s just a chrome extension, when my time’s up a full screen sloth pops up and blocks everything. Like you literally can’t keep going unless you stop.

timers never worked for me, I’d just ignore them or hit extend without thinking. This is kinda annoying but that’s the whole point. Been using it for a bit and it actually helped more than anything else I tried

still pretty rough but curious what u think?

idk if anyone else has this but I’ll open youtube "for 5 minutes" and suddenly it’s been like 2-3 hours

it’s been messing with my schedule a lot lately, especially when I’m supposed to be working or studying

I’ve tried timers, blocking apps, all that stuff but I just end up ignoring it or turning it off

so I ended up making this dumb thing for myself where when time’s up a sloth pops up and completely blocks my screen

like you literally can’t do anything until you stop

it’s honestly annoying but that’s kinda why it works for me

been using it for a bit and it actually helped me cut down how much time I waste

not sure if this is just a me problem or if other people deal with this the same way

how do you guys handle this? do timers actually work for you or do you just ignore them too

Hey,

I’ve been trying to cut down my scrolling for a while now

You know that feeling when you open something "just for a minute"

and suddenly an hour is gone

I tried timers, blockers, all that stuff

But most of them are easy to ignore

So I ended up making something for myself

It’s kind of stupid, but it actually works

When my time is up, a sloth pops up and blocks my screen completely

No "just one more scroll"

No ignoring it

You either stop or you sit there staring at it

Weirdly, that’s the only thing that’s been working for me so far

I’m not sure if something like this would help anyone else,

but I’m curious what you guys think

Would something like this actually work for you?

Or is it too aggressive?

Hey everyone,

So this happened to me way too many times:

I open YouTube "for 5 minutes"
then suddenly it’s been 2 hours

Or the opposite -
I’m working for hours straight and don’t even realize I haven’t taken a break

A few weeks ago I had this dumb idea:

what if something just forced me to stop?

Not a reminder
Not a notification

Something you literally can’t ignore

So I built it.

It’s a Chrome extension called FocuSloth

And yeah… when your time is up -
a sloth shows up and blocks ur screen

You can’t keep scrolling
You can’t click past it

You’re just… done.

What it does:

  • tracks time on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, X
  • you set a limit
  • when time runs out -> full-screen sloth
  • forces you to take a break before continuing

It sounds stupid, but it actually works way better than anything that relies on discipline

Because the whole point is:

you don’t get a choice in the moment

Also:

  • no accounts
  • no tracking
  • no ads
  • added some meme-style messages so it doesn’t feel like a boring productivity tool

I just released the first version and I’m curious:

  • would something like this actually help you?
  • what would make it better?

Thanks 🙏🏻

came across something kinda crazy 😭

it literally blocks your screen with a fat cat and you can’t do anything until you take a break

made me think, why isn’t this a proper app? like something that works on mac/windows and actually guides you instead of just reminding you

i’m thinking about building a version of this, but better structured (less chaos, more like a clear system you follow)

would you actually use something like this or nah?
