Recently I installed a JL JD400/4 into my 2020 Jeep wrangler. To go along I purchased a set of Alpine S6.5C aswell as a pair of kicker CS 6.5s (do not recommend). Since I’m using this with a stock head unit, the loc I chose was the LPA.e4, which has the impedence settings I needed to get audio from the HU. It also has gain controls, which are set at midway. When playing music, I have no distortion/clipping whatsoever at max (38) volume. But when I answer a phone call, if I go over 8 or 9, I get this horrid sound coming from my tweeters. I also get this if I’m playing a singular tone above like 1kHz. It sounds like a mix of a tin can and the power acoustic tweeters from Walmart for 10 dollars, it’s terrible. I feel as if I were to have a call any louder than 20 (not like I would anyways) I would blow something. Does anyone have any experience using these locs, if so, is midway gain too much. I have a multimeter, but don’t exactly know how to check gain on an LOC like I would for a gain on an amp.

Forgot to add, a week or 2 after this install, i put in a very cheap DSP just as a form of EQ for the system cause the 6.5 speaker pods have a very pronounced resonance frequency of 4.5khz even after adding sound dampening, which really offsets the mids. And adjusting the DSP does nothing to help fix the distortion.
