Luna update: she is out of surgery and is home recovering, its going to be a long road of recovery ahead but the outlook is positive

Update: just thought I should explain what happened and I should be more clear that I dont live with my brother but we've had extensive phone calls, hes been sending me thorough updates and sending me pictures of all the paperwork (also loving on luna for me and letting me talk to her over the phone) While she was under the vet did all the imaging and testing and deciding the safest best option for luna was to first thoroughly clean her mouth, pull all the teeth that needed pulled, and stitch any wounds that needed stitched (for example both of her lower canines had to be removed and the wounds stitched) They couldn't secure her jaw in place with a plate or wire because her jaw bones are so tiny and weak it would have just broke her jaw in other places trying to secure the existing break (she has a full break in the front between the two halves of her jaw and a partial fracture almost break in the back on one side) so the best safest plan for the jaw is for her to be heavily pain medicated and wear the cone as a barrier to protect her jaw as it heals on its own ( the bone its lined up and should fuse back together on its own without the wire its just now secured by a wire so needs to be extra protected) and she will have to continue to essentially be on a liquid diet (her food blended up) so she doesnt chew or anything This will be a very long months of recovery but shes perfectly healthy in every other way and is expected to make a full recovery. Thank you all for all the kind words and support its all been extremely appreciated 🙏

Please help save luna's life 🙏

Anything, even kind words are greatly appreciated 🙏

My brothers dog Luna was set to have her teeth pulled but before her set appointment date while eating her vet recommended food some of the teeth shifted and this shift broke her jaw so badly she cant fully close her mouth

The surgery will be between $3,000 and $4,000 and thats not including if she needs a feeding tube. This has exceeded the amount my brother had saved up for her full extractions

Shes 11 years old (please no comments about putting her down based on her age small dogs live a much longer time) and we've had her since we were kids before we knew how important dental is. When we became adults we learned and started giving her dental treats and brushing her teeth but by then she had bad teeth and needed full extractions, my brother saved up and set an appointment but this unfortunately happened before that could be done. She is a very loved member of my family. She gets her teeth brushed, dental treats, her hair brushed everyday, we do her hair, goes for walks daily, goes to dog parks, get lots of love and cuddles, is fed vet recommended food. We really are trying to do right by her its just we cant reverse time to when we were kids and start brushing her teeth back then and this unfortunate event happened and when it did we rushed her to an emergency vet who put her on pain medicine but said they cant do anything there because they dont work with teeth and jaws. I made about 50 calls all over the state that day and my brother made many as well and we could only find one place willing to take on her case but its expensive. Most places either didnt work with teeth and jaws or didnt want to work on her because of how small she is and would suggest just putting her down. The place we found is very confident they can save her and they specialize in jaw surgery and small animals

This place is 3 hours away so they gave us an over the phone estimate, her appointment is Tuesday and they are closed over the weekend but first thing monday we are requesting an emailed estimate and will be adding that to the gofundme page

I will be updating about her journey as im getting updates

Thank you

Update: they've been having to blend up her food into a smoothie like consistency and feed her like that, she was throwing up because of the pain medicine and not eating very much/ keeping her food down which raised the concern of a feeding tube however, I can now report she has now stopped throwing up and is keeping her food down 🙏
