I met a guy through a university/research environment and we ended up having a surprisingly good conversation after initially talking in a group. We had some things in common, the conversation flowed naturally, and it felt like there was genuine mutual interest/curiosity. Unfortunately the conversation was cut short by me because I had to leave.

After not running into him again for a while, I decided to message him and ask if he wanted to grab coffee sometime. He answered warmly and basically said “not weird at all,” but also mentioned he was in a really busy period with deadlines/work-related commitments.

I replied casually saying I understood because I was also busy lately, and since then… nothing. He hasn’t even opened the last message in about a week.

Now I’m confused because:

his initial response didn’t feel rejecting at all,

but he also didn’t actually move things forward,

and now I’m wondering if I misread the entire interaction.

The awkward part is that we’ll definitely see each other again regularly because we’re in overlapping academic environments.

Thanks to everyone who will read this 🙇🏽‍♀️
