Hello, Reddit! I help run a high school theatre organisation here in Zamboanga City (Philippines). I have been involved in creating and producing high school musical productions for the last four years. And over the course of staging socially and culturally significant productions, I also saw that the number of theatre audiences (and by extension, maybe, interest in live stage play) among high school students has dwindled.

It is our fervent belief that theatre is very important, especially in promoting creativity, critical thinking, disconnecting from the digital world, and enhancing communication skills among the youth of today.

Makes me wonder, in the local scene, how we can further promote interest in live stage plays? Any advice from this community will be welcomed to help us continuously promote the culture of performing arts in our city.

Yung commute friendly sana and safe for girls. Just need a place to just sit, think, read, take my time, and process my feelings. Eme. Haha but yeah, I hope I get some good recos here. Be it a cafe, somewhere na may nature, etc. Drop them. Or if gusto niyo igatekeep, just DM me the place. I just want to be away and have a new scenery for today.

Hello, I’m here again 😭 Currently waiting for the SM Scholarship results. If makapasa, I’m planning sana to take BSA at ADZU. Pero napapaisip din ako… what if mag-WMSU BSA nalang if makapasa rin?

Here are my personal pros and cons huhu:

ADZU

Pros:

- Possible SM Scholarship

- May friends na doon, so at least may matatanungan/help system

- Quality education talaga

Cons:

- May maintaining grade sa SM Scholarship, and kinakabahan ako na what if hindi ko ma-maintain 😭

- May summer classes daw (9 units), so baka hindi ako makapag-summer work if ever since may opportunities sana na ino-offer ang SM

WMSU

Pros:

- Free tuition

- No qualifying exams (though may yearly assessment test and retaining grades pa rin)

- No summer classes

- If mawalan man ako scholarship, hindi siya sobrang big financial risk

Cons:

- I know WMSU is a good school, pero hindi ako masyadong familiar sa quality ng BSA program nila

- Wala akong close friends na mag-BSA sa WMSU 😭

These are just my personal reasons/concerns. I’d really appreciate insights from BSA students/graduates from either school, especially regarding:

- quality of teaching

- workload/environment

- retention policies

- opportunities after grad

- survivability ng BSA HAHAHA

I’ve been noticing and hearing more about anti-Muslim sentiment here in Zamboanga City, and I genuinely want to understand where this is coming from.

Zamboanga has always been a culturally diverse place with a long history of different communities coexisting, including Muslims and Christians. But lately, there seem to be more comments, attitudes, or even subtle discrimination that feel rooted in islamophobia or prejudice against Muslims.

For those who live here or are familiar with the situation:

Have you noticed this as well?
What do you think are the reasons behind it?
Is it tied to recent events, misinformation, or something deeper historically?
How does it actually manifest in everyday life?

I’m asking out of curiosity and concern, not to start arguments. I’d really appreciate thoughtful and respectful insights so we can better understand what’s happening and how things might improve.

this is based on my experience pero some stores nanghihingi ng additional payment like 20 pesos kase card daw gagamitin ko for payment like huh? and earlier may binilhan akong shop sa zamboa and worth 40k plus ang item tas need daw 4 swipes and each swipe need mag additional ng 20 pesos. Never ko to naranasan sa ibang city LOLLL may naka experience ba na ganto? ik na bawal to.

Hi, just recently passed the WMSUCET and abot naman percentile ko sa BA Pol Sci under first prio and since junior high dream program ko na talaga to. Though I am very aware na there are not much job opportunities for pol sci grads lalo na kung walang backer, pero I don't mind kasi I am planning to pursue WMSU Law School right after graduation. I told my mom about this and she's willing to support me naman.

I just want to ask if okay ba mga profs and students doon? Sanay naman ako sa public school so hindi na bago sakin yung mga lumang facilities or lack of resources, but i just want to prepare myself mentally and if ano pa ba ang need kong i-expect sa mga interview or other experiences? Thanks.

May hiring ba dito sa zamboanga kahit clinic lng or any. tumatanggap po ako btw Nov 2024 passer here Natry kona magsubmit lahat ng hospi even isang update wala ako natanggap, Im trying to apply for abroad even subcon ang agency, kaso reject kasi lumagpas na 1 year, kahit fresh grad ang hanap nila,2025 preferred mejo nakakasad natambay ako due to personal reason.*private reason. Even my mother naghihinayang na atsaka feeling ko pabigat nako. Nakakasad feeling ko closed na yung opportunity saakin. But Im still praying na makahanap pa rin ng trabaho.🤲😀

noma kamo man work ki na zamboanga! nuay chance ki NYAHAHAHAHA wag kayo magtiis sa basta meron okay na, know ur worth guys. if wiz backer and such much better to work outside zamboanga or mag work online which is super duper comfortable. maski laude pa ka and have credentials but the establishments here walang pake sa natapos mo.

this is based on my exp na kakagrad lang last 2025 (madaming natanggap na job offer here zambo pero ang sweldo 400? nusabe yalng) but thank god may redirection talaga lagi sa buhay kase im earning triple rn.

I also am a dreamer of wanting to enter WMSU soon, then I saw mga tiktok posts with regards to being an Honor student and all kabar di nakapasa sa WMSU CET, mahirap talaga? Actually saw many posts crying of not seeing their names on the lisyt. If nandoon man din names nila indi aabot sa cut off ng preferred courses nila.

I do feel sad makita yun, pero how do we make sure makapasa tayo? what do you think dapat gawin namin na future takers

I’ve been working in a government agency here in Zamboanga for almost 5 years, pero until now COS pa rin. Ang hirap ma-regular kahit may experience at credentials—parang kailangan pa rin ng “backer.” I’m grateful for my job, pero honestly wala nang career growth or skills development.

Kaya I’m seriously thinking of leaving and exploring opportunities outside Zamboanga. I’m considering Manila or Cebu.
