4 months off – waves, windows, fluctuating BP, and new symptoms showing up… anyone relate?

Hey everyone,

I’m about 4 months off and wanted to see if anyone else went through something similar.

For context, I was using around 4–5 mg of Xanax per week, not daily, more intermittent use over about a year. It was usually spread across the week (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday), not consecutive daily use. I stopped cold turkey and got through the worst of the early phase.

Now I’m in this weird stage where things are definitely better overall, but recovery feels very inconsistent. I get what people call waves and windows. A few decent days, then a wave hits and something feels off again. I used to have perfect days at the beginning I remember i had a perfect 2nd,8th, and 9th days. Lately with accumulated stress i get ok days (windows) and of course other terrible days (waves).

One thing that’s been stressing me a bit is my blood pressure. I never had BP issues before, but now it sometimes reads high, especially during a wave or when I feel on edge. Other times it’s completely normal.

It also feels like once I get over one symptom, another one shows up. Earlier it was more physical stuff, now it’s more mental:

feeling on edge / hyper-aware

intrusive thoughts

this constant urge to figure things out or “solve” everything

It’s not full anxiety like before, rather a restless mind that won’t fully switch off. And episodes of depression. I should note that im still functioning (work, gym, gatherings) it was very challenging in the beginning.

The confusing part is it feels like I am improving, but at the same time something new replaces the old symptom.

Just wondering:

did anyone else have symptoms shift where one symptom replaces another?

did your BP fluctuate during this stage?

did the overthinking / urge to solve go away?

when did things start to feel more stable?

Would really appreciate hearing from people further along.
