I got this email for a task I submitted. Does it mean anything or is this a normal occurrence for all WGU students?

Hello! I am planning to start WGU on June 1st to pursue my B.A. in elementary education. I have some transfer credits but based on my transfer eval I only had 8 courses transfer so I still have about 29 courses to go. I am looking for more insight (not sponsored, not degree hacking whatever it's called) onto a realistic timeline in completing all of these courses. I primarily have the education based courses left. The few geneds I have I think I can knock it fairly quickly, but I am not sure how WGU is set up.

I know we have six months to complete 4 courses, but you can go over. How much time do you guys give yourself to complete a course? Do you do them one at a time or do a couple simultaneously? Is 6-8 weeks a reasonable time to do 2-3 courses at once, or would more time be necessary on average? I'm sure some classes will be more difficult than others and that I will need more time for some - but I'm curious as to how quickly I can get through them while still learning the material.

Another thing that I'm hung up on is the student teaching. D717 and D718, (I'm having a hard time finding the course catalog for WGU). How do these look within an actual school setting when i am doing the student teaching? If I were to start these Fall 2027 (hypothetically), would it be like time between the start of the school year and then fall break, then the second one after fall break to winter break? I'm trying to remember how long we had student teachers when I was in elementary and middle school, but time worked differently in a childs brain lol.

Anyway, thank you for your time to respond, I look forward to any advice or tips given!

Happy May (basically May already) to all the new, existing, and former WGU students. We would like to take the opportunity to plug two Discord communities for your WGU (pre-, current, and post-) educational journey. Whether you're currently enrolled, recently joined, or exploring WGU as a potential student, this is the perfect opportunity to get involved and connect with others walking the same path as you!

Unofficial WGU Discord

The Unofficial WGU Discord has over 15,000 members and averages 3,000+ messages per week. We have a large FAQ channel, a ton of resources to help with PA/OAs, as well as a dedicated military/veteran community. We have channels and support for all 4 Colleges at WGU (Health, Education, Information Technology, and Business) with quite a lot of engagement by current students and alumni.

It's free to join and a good complement to reddit for information and resources related to WGU, so why not check it out?

https://discord.gg/unwgu

WGU CS Discord

If you happen to be a Computer Science or Software Engineering Major at WGU, there is a more focused Discord server that is highly recommend. The WGU CS Discord has over 5,000 members with dedicated channels for each course in the programs and highly focused discussions relevant to CS and SE students and alumni. It is ALSO free, so check it out too if you are interested in CS/SE.

Ok, but really why should I bother with either Discord server?

  • Support for Degree Programs: Each server has multiple resources and forms of help. Each server has a plethora of FAQs, general/Major/career discussion channels, individual course focused threads, and even places to discuss hobbies. This is the perfect space for participants to connect, collaborate, and share valuable resources.

  • Organization: Both servers have taken a unique approach to organizing the servers it to make it easier for you to navigate and find the resources and discussions relevant to your studies.

  • Rich Resource Pool: Our communities are filled with valuable resources, notes, and helpful insights shared by fellow students who've walked the path you're on.

  • Master Resource Sheets: A huge resource hub of guides, videos, and tips exists for both servers.

  • A more interactive chat experience: Unlike reddit or Facebook groups, Discord is an interactive chat platform. You are far more likely to have running discussions and conversations on Discord than either reddit or Facebook.

    • NOTE: You will get out of the chat experience what you put in. Just remember that the people on the other side of the chat have lives and responsibilities. Please be patient if you don't get an immediate response to something you post.

How Can I Contribute?

  • Share Your Wisdom: If you've found a resource or strategy that's been particularly helpful, share it with the community!

  • Engage in Discussions: Your insights and experiences can be invaluable to others. Don't hesitate to join the conversation!

  • Ask Questions: Stuck on something? Ask away! There's no such thing as a silly question and you might just be surprised how many others have had the same issue/question.

    • NOTE: You are expected to have done at least some basic research/searching for your question/issue. Additionally, you will get far more responses if you ask a specific question with details and then are patient for an answer. People are more likely to answer verbose questions than something generic.

So, what are you waiting for? Come join us on Discord for conversation, collaboration, help, and fun. We have it all.

I’m about to apply and start the BAELED program in September … should I take public speaking or workplace communications at Sophia or wait to take communications class at WGU? Which do you recommend/easier?

Also, what about English composition II? Sophia or WGU for this? I’ve heard the Sophia course is really hard? Any insight?
