I recently watched the pilot episode of Gameoverse, and although I first saw it in English, I always like to watch it in Spanish to hear how it was adapted, since I think Glitch's Spanish dub is quite good.

To my surprise, it turns out that Pepe Toño Macías, the Spanish voice actor for Dr. Flug, is also the Spanish voice actor for Fold in the Gameoverse pilot. This means the actor is dubbing two characters who are related in some way to the role; they both work for an evil organization led by a high-level villain.

recientemente vi el episodio piloto de gameoverse y aunque lo vi primero en ingles, siempre me gusta verlo en español para poder escuchar la forma en la que se adaptó pues el doblaje de glitch en español me parece bastante bueno.

Para mi sorpresa resulta que pepe toño macias, el actor de voz del dr flug en español, es el actor de voz de fold en el piloto de gameoverse en español. Es decir que el actor esta doblando a dos personajes relacionados en cierta forma con el papel, trabajan para una organización malvada que es liderada por un villano de gran nivel

Sinceramente, una de las cosas que más gracia me da de Villainous es darme cuenta de que mucha gente de Estados Unidos, Canadá, Europa, etc. tuvo que ver los “Videos de Orientación para Villanos” y los cortos viejos con subtítulos.

O sea… por UNA VEZ, nosotros no somos los que estamos sufriendo leyendo subtítulos tratando de entender lo que dicen los personajes.

Y antes de que alguien se ofenda, no lo digo de manera mala ni con odio. Simplemente me hace feliz porque crecer así fue básicamente la experiencia de muchos latinos con la animación de internet y las series indie. Cosas como Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss, Digital Circus. Si bien estas series ya tienen una traducción formada pero hay que recordar los trailers, cortos exclusivos y canciones solamente están en inglés. Volviendo al tema... Muchas otras series online casi siempre salían primero en inglés. Si no sabías inglés, o esperabas eternamente una traducción… o te tocaba verlo todo con subtítulos esperando poder seguir el ritmo.

Y sí, quizás para algunos no sea la gran cosa, pero cuando eres más joven y no entiendes bien el idioma, llega a ser frustrante a veces. Te encantan los personajes, los chistes, las voces, el fandom… pero siempre existe esa pequeña barrera entre tú y la experiencia. Lo digo porque hubo un momento en el que yo no sabía inglés y tenía que verme las series con subtítulos, lo cual era jodidamente frustrante y tedioso.

Por eso ver que se volvió popular internacionalmente mientras sigue siendo orgullosamente mexicana y en español se sintió raramente satisfactorio para mí. Tipo: bienvenidos a nuestro mundo por un momento... 🗣️🔥

Y hay algo muy divertido en ver a personas enamorarse de los personajes y y quedarse encantados con lo maravillosos que son, y mientras los que hablan meramente inglés son los que tienen que leer subtítulos esta vez y no los latinos

De nuevo, no intento burlarme de nadie. De hecho, creo que es algo bonito. Demuestra que una serie puede romper barreras de idioma cuando realmente es buena. Y sinceramente, ver a personas que no hablan español disfrutar el audio original, aprender frases, citar a los personajes y encariñarse con la serie de todos modos… se siente bastante bonito.

Pero igual me voy a reír un poquito sabiendo que por una vez los subtítulos no eran nuestro problema 🤑

Honestly, one of the things I find most amusing about Villainous is realizing that many people in the United States, Canada, Europe, etc., had to watch the "Villain Orientation Videos" and the old shorts with subtitles.

I mean… for ONCE, we're not the ones suffering through subtitles trying to understand what the characters are saying.

And before anyone gets offended, I don't mean this in a mean or hateful way. It just makes me happy because growing up like this was basically the experience of many Latinos with internet animation and indie series. Things like Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss, Digital Circus. While these series already have established translations, we have to remember that the trailers, exclusive shorts, and songs are only in English. Getting back to the point… Many other online series almost always came out in English first. If you didn't know English, you either waited forever for a translation… or you had to watch everything with subtitles hoping you could keep up.

And yes, maybe for some it's not a big deal, but when you're younger and don't understand the language well, it can be frustrating at times. You love the characters, the jokes, the voices, the fandom… but there's always that little barrier between you and the experience. I say this because there was a time when I didn't know English and I had to watch the shows with subtitles, which was incredibly frustrating and tedious.

That's why seeing it become popular internationally while still proudly remaining Mexican and in Spanish felt strangely satisfying to me. Like: welcome to our world for a moment… 🗣️🔥

And there's something really fun about seeing people fall in love with the characters and be charmed by how wonderful they are, while those who speak only English are the ones who have to read subtitles this time, not the Latinos.

Again, I'm not trying to make fun of anyone. In fact, I think it's a beautiful thing. It shows that a show can break down language barriers when it's truly good. And honestly, seeing people who don't speak Spanish enjoy the original audio, learn phrases, quote the characters, and grow fond of the series anyway… it feels pretty nice.

But I'm still going to chuckle a little knowing that for once the subtitles weren't our problem 🤑
