Am I dumb?

Im slowly making the transition from vegetarian to vegan, and making note of what food I like currently that is vegan safe. Am missing something? Ive read the ingredients multiple times and don’t understand why its not vegan

Bisto meat free gravy discontinued

Went to tesco today to find more gravy and noticed that regular beef bisto has beef in it. The only ones now available for vegans is the onion and vegetable gravy.

Project Slingshot wants to end factory farming by 2040. Get involved!

The vast majority of people are against factory farming in principle, and are unaware that 85% of farmed animals in the UK are confined in factory farms.

Project Slingshot wants to drag factory farming into the light, so that people can see what they're actually paying for with their food choices.

As vegans we hate all animal farms, but we can't tear them down alone - we need the great British public to understand and turn against factory farming. Lots of ways to get behind this cause here: https://projectslingshot.com/

Tips for a vegan birthday meal in London

Celebrating a big birthday this year and hoping to go for a nice meal, ideally a tasting menu type thing.

Currently considering the following, which aren't fully vegan places but have vegan menus:

Park Chinois https://maps.app.goo.gl/srCRVhePVr6fnqgQA

The Duck and Rice https://maps.app.goo.gl/k3RoK9TZc8XG5woX6

Hakkasan https://maps.app.goo.gl/FsR5d5Ahed1vPSmo8

Has anyone here tried these places and can advise about their vegan options?

Also open to other places, especially anywhere fully vegan or with more of an emphasis on their vegan offerings. We love fake meat, tofu, Asian food, small plates, but open to any cuisines!

We've already been to Gauthier Soho, Tendril, Scully, and Galvin La Chapelle. Would love to try Plates but haven't been able to get a table yet!

Thanks in advance.

Is Fanta labelled as Vegan?

Does anyone know if Fanta says 'vegan' anywhere on the bottle? I haven't checked for a while, but I recently saw that Sainsbury's website page is saying that it's vegan

This Fillet Steak - first impressions

Tried the new 'This Fillet Steak' last night and it was decent. Good meaty flavour and pulls apart nicely, although I felt it was a little too thick and a little on the dry side. I would have also preferred it without the pepper and would have liked the crust to be more crusty. Not sure I'd call it a game changer and probably won't rush to buy again but compared to Juicy Marbles it was less juicy, more solid and less like corned beef.

Huge UK grassroots initiative could spark shift to plant-forward diet

A documentary film, just out, spearheads a major, well-backed push to tell the British public about the serious, imminent risks to the UK from the climate and nature crisis – and to get action on the solutions that we have in our hands to fix it, if we act fast enough.

The solutions being put forward include a national shift to a more plant-rich diet – so this would be fantastic for veganism.

The film, called The People’s Emergency Briefing, aims to break through the silence and disinformation and create an irresistible call to the Government to put out a prime-time, televised, national emergency briefing on the crisis, mount a genuine, WW2-scale emergency response, and lead internationally.

The film is powerful, energising and entertaining, and includes big names such as Chris Packham and Jennifer Saunders reacting Gogglebox-style to footage of expert briefings.

For now, you can only see it at community screenings, followed by a discussion, with your MP always invited – so that you can come up with a plan together.

Thousands of screenings are in the pipeline, big NGOs such as the National Trust and RSPB are backing it, cathedral showings are planned, and the aim is to get the film shown over and over in every constituency across the UK to get the cat out of the bag.

We can all write to our MPs asking them the join the Parliamentary Call to the Government to act; go to a screening and take others with us; host a screening; and get the word out as widely as possible.

More info, including where you can see local screenings, is on the National Emergency Briefing website.

Is it my turn to post their "I had This Fillet Steak"?

Yeah, alright tbf, definitely the closest whole Steak alternative I've had so far. I think Beyond Steak Pieces are better, but as a whole Steak you can have as Steak and Chips, it's the best so far. Would have again, though maybe with a Steak sauce next time.

Simple, plainish meal ideas for fussy kids

This might be a big ask! My son (17 - I hoped he'd have grown out of it a bit by now) doesn't like 'mixed together' dishes like curry, Bolognese, soup etc. I think he would eat nuggets everyday if he could! I made tofu breaded 'chicken' today and it went down well with all my kids, but it's not something I want to make everyday and due to freezing the tofu before breading it means I couldn't make some in advance and put them in the freezer which is such a pain. I'm thinking of trying to press it, then bread it and freeze it and see if that creates that chicken like texture.

I'm a little overwhelmed with how much shopping, cooking and cleaning I do so I'm trying to minimise and simplify the kitchen but going vegan feels like I'm struggling between wanting to eat more whole foods and also wanting to make cooking easier. I don't want to rely on heavily processed foods but I'm happy to cook these things a few times a week.

My children aren't vegan but I don't like to cook multiple meals so I'm trying to find a few more options that would suit the fussy eaters in our house.

So far we have baked beans on toast, or with chips or on a jacket potato. Tofu breaded chicken (we are planning to do it southern fried style next time) Richmond vegan sausages offer lots of meal options, from a roast dinner to serving with chips and beans. But I'm stuck for more ideas and we don't like pasta.

I also want to avoid making things that dirty lots of things, ie I try not to use my blender too much, making the breaded chicken requires 2 bowls to do the coating and I'm overwhelmed and can't face doing things like this everyday. 2 bowls doesn't sound like a lot to wash up, but with the pan, knife, chopping board, saucepans to cook some rice and veg to go with it these things start to add up.

Daughter is veggie rather than vegan, but wondered if anyone had recommendations for nationwide chains that sell veg based meals/fast meals. Shes really not keen on tofu/quorn etc.

Ocado recommendations?

I'm going to put my first order with Ocado soon and I noticed they have quite a few things that the other supermarkets don't have. I'm very keen on trying Unmeat and Moving Mountains.

Can anyone else suggest some interesting items? Preferably low in gluten!

pease pudding?

i bought pease pudding today for the first time and had it on a bread roll with some squeaky bean chicken, and liked it! for anyone else unfamiliar with it, i would describe it as very thick hummus with a strong lentil/mushy pea flavour.

im not from the north east and had never tried it before today. from my googling, ive seen it’s typically eaten in ham sandwiches, but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for how else to use it?

Strong roots creamy mac?!

Has anyone else noticed strong roots creamy Mac is no longer available in Ocado? It was my go to mac and cheese, it was SO good, I’m so upset it seems to have been discontinued and I’ll never get to eat it again? 😢 I would have stocked up if I had known..

Greggs vegan roll recalled

I've been told by the Greggs staff that the vegan roll (formerly known as the Vegan Sausage Roll) has been recalled, and there's none in stock anywhere in Sheffield. Does anyone know the reason why it's been recalled?
