Why is it so GD hot in every building? Even in the basements! Does anyone know of anywhere on campus that is cooler or has a fan or air flow or anything in an area where you can sit and work on a laptop?

I will most likely be coming to USask for a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
I am familiar with the situation that Saskatoon/Saskatchewan does not have as many tech opportunities compared to Toronto or bigger cities, which honestly makes me a little nervous because I will most likely be moving provinces and taking student loans for this degree.
I wanted to ask current students or recent graduates:
How has your experience been so far in CS at USask?

Do students usually help each other out or is it very competitive?

Are there any active CS clubs/groups/communities?

How difficult is it to get internships or co-op opportunities?

Were you able to find internships that actually helped financially and gave real industry experience?

Do students mostly get internships in Saskatchewan only, or also in other provinces/remote positions?

How are the professors and overall teaching quality?

If you had to start over again, would you still choose USask for Computer Science?

I have gone through many older posts on this subreddit and honestly some of them scared me a lot because people were sharing very negative experiences about tech jobs and internships.
At the same time, I know people online usually post more when they are frustrated, so I wanted to hear balanced and updated opinions from current students as well.
I would really appreciate honest advice, especially from people who are:
currently in the program,

recently graduated,

or doing internships/co-ops right now.

This might sound really odd and stupid, but I've never been on a city bus. Im going into my 4th year here at Usask, and am from a small town in Saskatchewan so I've never been on any city busses here in Saskatoon. When I moved to Warman from my small little town, I've always just purchased a parking permit for one of the lots on campus, and drove in from campus. For more context, im taking spring classes right now, and feeling adventurous to ride a bus! :) For the people who drive in from out of the city, where do you park your vehicle and hop on a bus? Lawson heights? ALSO, how do I even use my UPASS. Do I just download the TransitGO app, and scan the barcode when I get on the bus? how do I know when to get off? how do I know which bus is going where? I KNOW THIS POST SOUNDS STUPID, but im genuinely curious lol

I'm a freshman going into Biomedical Science, and I wanted to know which place in CQ would be the best. I'm thinking either 2 bedroom, 3 bedroom, or a studio if I can get one.

Hi I’m a current bio med student with aims to make it to med school. Truth be told I have been burnt out since grade 12 from high school I intended to take a gap year but was unable to. I hadn’t really given it my best effort the last two years and now face a possibility of being on probation twice in a row which from my understanding being on it once is already bad. I have this summer spring to potentially save my self from this predicament but I fear that having to retake those courses that landed me in this situation rn and everything else will reduce my chances of making it. I’ve been feeling really anxious about this the last few weeks as this would mean the last two years would have been for nothing I myself know what I am capable of achieving but I fear it’s to late as I am still burnt out and taking a gap year now is not an option as I am required to finish a 4 year degree in 5 years but it’s more preferable to finish it in 4 years. I am really anxious right now about what to do and have no idea how this will go so just seeking any form of HELPFUL ADVICE that people have.

Guys did you use your book to pass the exams? Or the materials prof provide is enough to pass the exam. Prof Jocelyn said book is required to read…😭 but I don’t want to buy the book since it’s spring term only

I am launching a minecraft server for the university (unofficial its student ran) on the 8th of may, it will be vanilla java. Going to post a full announcement tomorrow on the 1st but for now just making a post to see what you guys think, how many of you are gonna play on it?

Also someone offered me 20 bucks for jenny mod so I am gonna put that on vote, I am covering hosting costs out of pocket because the ussu considers minecraft server hosting as "operation upkeep" which means they won't cover it however I am going to try to see if they'd pay for a physical server next school year since we are way past the date to ask for funds now.

Anyways, upvote or/and comment if you are interested in the minecraft server and do tell me what mods you'd want or what ideas you want me to implement with it.

It seems our marks for NURS120 were posted on PAWS. Please tell me I’m not the only one who felt like I should’ve gotten a much better grade after studying non-stop for 3 weeks.

so basically in january my english prof flagged one of my short assignments because i cited the wrong quote with pg 47 instead of 35. this happened bc i imported my play into goodnotes and it imported after all my other current english notes so page 1 of the play looked like page 7 on goodnotes. i explained the honest mistake and that i wasn't trying to cheat or use ai i just didn't read over it thoroughly enough to catch it. i signed an informal form and redid it.

now i did my term paper and he flagged me for ai and said i have to do a formal hearing. i have my google doc history of my term paper where it shows i wrote it from march 29th-april 2nd and it shows that some days i wrote 1 sentence and other days i wrote a paragraph aswell i went back and removed and added sentences and adjusted grammar. i have a feeling he flagged me because i used complex words because after the first informal no matter what i did he wouldn't give me over a 68 on writting assignments.i also handed in an outline for this term paper which he corrected and gave feedback on which i then applied to the final term paper and made sure i wouldn't get marks off for grammar so i spent 2 hours in total correcting my grammar.

what do you guys think will happen in the hearing if my first offence was a citation error and now i have my google doc writting history, and term outline to provide as evidence for my formal hearing?

Just a question but anyone taking spring/summer classes, have you guys gotten your student loans yet? I’m facing problems every other day with it and haven’t received it even though it’s the 11th. 💀 just wanted to know if anyone else is having the same situation because the last time i applied for it, things were smooth sailing unlike this time

Hello all, the Minecraft server is finally here. All students are welcomed to join and all none students can submit a ticket as well and express their interest, none students are granted entry at my discretion (just making sure trolls don't come but most are welcomed).

We have decided to make a separate minecraft club attached to it so we may get funding for events and possibly fund a physical server since monthly subscription to a service is not fundable by the USSU due to being upkeep.

I am in psychology and next year I have to take my required stats classes. The only classes I see available is with Sarty and all I’ve seen is very bad stuff about him so i’m really nervous. I’m not very strong in stats so I was really wanting to get a helpful teacher but now I feel pretty hopeless. Any advice? Would getting a tutor help?
