Computer Science at Memorial University — Honest Student Experiences Needed

Hello everyone,

I will most likely be joining Memorial University for September 2026 (Computer Science / Science pathway).
I wanted to get honest feedback from current students or recent graduates before making my final decision.
I have a few questions:
How is the overall experience in Computer Science at MUN?

Are there active student communities, clubs, or coding groups?

How strong are the co-op or internship opportunities?

Do students usually find internships in Newfoundland, or do they move to other provinces for work terms?

How is the teaching quality and support from professors?

For those who have graduated — how was your job search experience after graduation?

I understand Newfoundland is smaller compared to provinces like Ontario or BC, so I am trying to realistically understand the internship and career situation rather than just relying on rankings.

I have also seen mixed opinions online, so I would really appreciate balanced and recent experiences from current students.

Thank you

Computer Science Bachelor’s at USask — Need Honest Opinions From Current Student

Hello Everyone,

I will most likely be coming to USask for a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
I am familiar with the situation that Saskatoon/Saskatchewan does not have as many tech opportunities compared to Toronto or bigger cities, which honestly makes me a little nervous because I will most likely be moving provinces and taking student loans for this degree.
I wanted to ask current students or recent graduates:
How has your experience been so far in CS at USask?

Do students usually help each other out or is it very competitive?

Are there any active CS clubs/groups/communities?

How difficult is it to get internships or co-op opportunities?

Were you able to find internships that actually helped financially and gave real industry experience?

Do students mostly get internships in Saskatchewan only, or also in other provinces/remote positions?

How are the professors and overall teaching quality?

If you had to start over again, would you still choose USask for Computer Science?

I have gone through many older posts on this subreddit and honestly some of them scared me a lot because people were sharing very negative experiences about tech jobs and internships.
At the same time, I know people online usually post more when they are frustrated, so I wanted to hear balanced and updated opinions from current students as well.
I would really appreciate honest advice, especially from people who are:
currently in the program,

recently graduated,

or doing internships/co-ops right now.

Thank you 🙂
