uBlock Origin (uBO) 1.71.* Announcement Thread | Huge delays with Mozilla code review | r/uBlockOrigin has reached over 151K members~

About the Firefox version:
In the last few months Mozilla has had some worrisome delays with reviewing extensions. The last uBO version that got accepted was beta 0, released on March 13 and accepted quickly on March 15. Next beta (1) was released on March 14 and... we're still waiting for a review. It's been 8 weeks. There are 6 unreviewed dev versions (including a release candidate) in the queue. It's possible that each new submission knocks uBO further down the queue AMO had likely set up.
Based on that theory, uBO 1.71 was not submitted to AMO yet. It hasn't been properly tested due to these delays and we'll likely be forced to wait until prior dev releases clear the queue first.

Please do not ask when the FF version will be released. It's out of our hands.

Changelog:

https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/1.71.0

Visit GitHub releases page for more information.

Extension will be auto-updated after browser restart! (when available for your platform)

If you want to update manually:

  • Do NOT use links from the release page's "Assets" section - these are not signed.
  • Use your add-on store or links in release description on the GitHub releases page when they are available.
    • Firefox will have a (signed) direct install link. Other browsers will link to their uBO extension store pages.
  • In some cases, installation may be blocked until browser restart. This is protection against accidental mid-session reloads, Issue #717.

Or force an update via Manage extensions:

When will my browser update uBO?:

How to use uBO on Chrome

Please report YouTube Issues on Github: uBO | uBO Lite

As a side note, the subreddit has reached 150K members on Apr 9, 2026 and 151K on May 2.

While reddit is bent on removing those stats everywhere in favor of weekly activity, the member count still hasn't been removed internally for moderators. That said, before we reach the next major milestone of 200K, it might be gone too. This is likely our last member growth announcement.

Thanks for growing the sub with us, while it still counts :)

Reddit is blocking access to its website on mobile with a popup

As covered by various news outlets, Reddit is forcing mobile users to install its app by displaying an undismissable pop-up on its mobile website. Would bypassing this popup be under the scope or interest for uBO development?

Any idea how to get around this?

This site is always infested with ads in a way that it makes using it unpleasant to use. It always seems like once a year the owner implements some bs to try and fight ad blockers. I just want to look at car specifications not have ads all over the place

Filters for browsing Reddit NSFW subreddits

Some countries do not allow you to browse NSFW subreddits without an account + age verification. I created a few uBO filters to remove all the blurs, icons, popups and text that block the NSFW image and post text:

reddit.com###blocking-modal:remove()
reddit.com##+js(remove-attr, blurred|embed-obscured, shreddit-blurred-container[reason="nsfw"], stay)
reddit.com##+js(trusted-suppress-native-method, CustomElementRegistry.prototype.define, '"xpromo-nsfw-blocking-container"', prevent)
reddit.com###right-sidebar-container [style*="filter: blur"]:style(filter: none !important;)
reddit.com###right-sidebar-container svg[icon-name="nsfw-fill"]:style(display: none !important;)
reddit.com###right-sidebar-container .bg-media-background:style(background: transparent !important; background-color: transparent !important;)
reddit.com##a.viewInApp[slot="view-in-app-button"]

If a post image / text doesn't load then refresh the page. If you are in a country that requires age verification then you need to logout of your account to view NSFW subreddits with these filters.

Google AI overview blocked on MacOS uBlock Origin Lite but not on iOS uBlock Origin Lite

I have the same exact filter settings (everything) enabled on both devices, but the AI overview on Google is only blocked on MacOS, not iOS. I tried searching here and found some custom filter settings to try and none of them are added when I attempt to do so in uBOL.

Download Chrome Popup in Incognito/Private on Google[dot]com | How to Block

Whenever I open an Incognito/Private browser window on pretty much any non-Chrome browser (but using Brave as default), even though I have uBlock Origin enabled, if I go to use Google[dot]com, then I get an annoying popup at the bottom of the page that stops me from even clicking in the search bar until I click "Don't use Chrome".

Here's an image of it (it's the part that says "Choose Chrome, the browser built by Google":

https://preview.redd.it/0s11epvcmv0h1.png?width=1022&format=png&auto=webp&s=034a4eceb052d502acd1b38433d4862ec62359c8

I've searched and searched online, especially in this subreddit, and tried to figure it out myself. I can't find anything, and the popup seems to use javascript to produce a random string for the element, so I can't figure out how to block it more than once.

Can anybody help me block this, please?

Currently using Edge in andriod which support both UBO and Ubol. Which one is recommended?

Should i use Ubo or uboL.

Thing is, Ubo is full extension.

While Ubo lite is recommended for Menifest v3 chromium browsers.

If i use each, which has more benefit over other.

Convert Case somehow bypasses uBlock Origin with ads.

https://convertcase.net/

This happened about 1-2 days ago, as usual worked beforehand and now quite literally the only website in my scope that doesn't block the ads. No changes in any configurations to Ublock Origin or the likes.

On the sidebar, there are some "new" videos that are suggested. These videos have these things in common:

  1. They appear no matter what, even if you mark them as "Not interested"
  2. Their release date range from a second ago (?) to a month.
  3. They are always recommended at the 3rd or 4th place, although they get recommended more than once in a video.
  4. They are tagged with "New" tag (always?).
  5. They have poor quality title and thumbnail that have annoyed me enough make me create this post.

So, I want to hide these videos. Before that, I was using this filter to remove 3rd suggested video, which seems like that it is not the solution I wanted: ytd-watch-next-secondary-results-renderer yt-lockup-view-model:nth-of-type(3).

It seems like filtering "New" tag would be the most reliable option, even though I don't know every video like this has this tag. It also includes new videos that are from channels I follow, though I don't care about this.

I’ve been using this extension for quite a while, but I’ve never come across any kind of clear guide on how to properly use filter lists, especially in terms of avoiding overlap and preventing too much website breakage.

I’ve tried using filterlists.com to add some lists, but none of them seem to offer a way to check for redundancy or conflicts. That makes it hard to understand which combinations actually make sense.

Is there any kind of guide for an optimal setup, or even a slightly more aggressive blocking configuration? Also, which lists from each category are actually worth using, considering there’s a lot of overlap between them? That overlap makes things even more confusing when trying to figure out how to build a clean setup.

I’ve spent a couple of days searching through this subreddit and couldn’t find a clear answer, so I decided to ask directly. If this has already been answered here or somewhere else, I’d really appreciate it if you could point me to it.

Looking for best practices on combining uBlock Origin filter lists without redundancy or breaking websites.

Does anyone know a better way to increase the number of video thumbnails (which is 4 by default) for the "Videos" page on Youtube? The filter below works and does increase the number to 5 but the loading of the 5th thumbnail seems to have a bit of a delay. Would appreciate a better alternative.

I'm a long time user of uBlockOrigin on Firefox, but for some reason, today it is no longer working at all. Nothing is blocked, it is impossible to access extension settings, pages are the same with and without the extension enabled, etc. Even the icon in the menu bar is different from before for some reason.

It seems like an update to FF and/or uBO must have broken things (my guess is the former), but I haven't been able to find any other reports of the same issue.

Update: Rebooting my computer fixed the issue. I have no idea what happened before, but at least it's working now.

uBO Lite on iPhone - how to use theglobeandmail?

I can't figure out how to see much on theglobeandmail.com on iPhone when I click on any article, there is just one giant sign up page which covers the whole screen. Selecting elements to block isn't helping, there is just an X and a target icon and I can't get them to do anything to get rid of the popup. It isn't an issue on firefox on win desktop w/uBO, but I have a "Bypass PW clean filter" installed from gitflic (ru) which might be handling it. Is there a way to get that filter list to work on the iPhone version of uBlock or some other way?

Since youtube keeps constantly pushing small unwanted and completely unnecessary UI changes that repeatedly break the existing filters to make the site usable, the previous filters to remove all the dogshit and ai slop on the sidebar "recommendations" have broken again. Is there a new working/updated one already?

Hello,

Is there a filter with uBlock that allows to remove these annoying login popups on websites like Instagram ?

I am using Firefox.

Thanks a lot !

u/Jonaaaaaz — 8 days ago

How do I make the pop-up smaller? "More" and "less" are both cut off in portrait and landscape mode.
