When and why did Tom’s voice change?
on his earlier albums, his voice is more “clear-sounding” than his later albums, where he sounds more gravelly. I personally lov both, but I was wondering if he intentionally changed his voice as he got older?

Luckily they aren’t like either of my favorites but it kinda sucks, would be kinda nice to have the whole album back up
Ordered the new cd remaster of this great album. It arrived today. I don't have the original pressing to compare it to but it sounds great.
I am finishing up Tom Waits On Tom Waits and just learned about the Scarlett Johansson covers album Anywhere I Lay My Head. I listened to it in its entirety this morning and plan on listening again. I've got to be honest it's actually good. I feel like I have biases of course because I am not a fan of major Hollywood actors. Ever. But I personally feel that she actually did these songs justice. They are beautiful in their own way and somewhat changed my perspective on her. Has anyone else listened to this? Does anyone else like it?
Am I the only one who had them disappear from Spotify? I genuinely can’t find them and when I go to look at them in my library, they’re missing like over half the track list! What the hell
Just an update. It’s easier to make a post than reply to and keep track of 100+ messages.
I mailed out to about 150 of you. Already have had word that many have been received, had some return giftings already (including homemade vanilla extract and some glass art), and even had a guy who I apparently forgot to put a sticker in his envelope in all my mail stuffings. I’ll make sure you get one!
Got a fresh batch of 3” ones showing next week. I’m still working my way through my inbox, so hang tight with me as it’s still in the triple digits. I will get you one, no matter where in the world you are.
Ive found I already need to order more so give me a few weeks to get back to ya. If I say, “You’ve got it,” it’s en route.
Also, if you’re a bartender in Pittsburgh, please leave a comment as I accidentally hit “Ignore Chat” instead of “Accept Chat” and I feel terrible about it… not sure how to pull your message back up.
We will spread the good word!
If you haven’t requested one yet, I’ll still take asks. Just DM me some sort of name and a mailing address. Internationals are welcome, too!

Painting from 2016 I did with a matching Nick Cave one also. Hope you guys like it. What do you think? Painted using acrylic and spray paint on 80cm canvas. @fergalcoghlanart
I have barely scratched the surface of his albums, but I've long been fascinated with Tom's versatility. I tried a couple of years ago to do a full retrospective of his albums to see when he started to shift in persona and tone, but ran out of steam. Based on what I've heard, it seems that Heartattack and Vine/Swordfishtrombone was a major bridge for his style, but I could be wrong and missing a chunk of the picture. I've also not kept up with what he's done since Orphans, which appears to be a morbid encompassing of his styles over the years.
So for those of you not familiar: the grad theft auto series has radio stations that play licensed music. So what songs of Waits’ do you think would turn up in GTA: my ideas:
Little drop of poison: pretty self explanatory, it’s a dark song for a game with dark themes.
Big Black Mariah: good car chase music
Tom had every concert on his 2006 and 2008 tours filmed, sadly he's hardly released any of it.
Its going to be 20 years since the Orphans tour of 2006 this August, maybe he will release some more recordings of it then!? Fingers crossed. So far hes only released 4 songs from the tour. This is the only "official concert footage" from toms archive hes ever released, and it was just these 4 songs on an internet website for free - no dvd:
Thank you, u/AppropriateYams. You really made my day when I opened my mail to find a new "to do list".
I heard a live on YouTube some long time ago and can't find it again. I *think* it was A telephone call from Istanbul but I watched all versions I could find and couldn't locate it. Coulda been one of them late night show performances but that doesn't really narrow it down at all does it. If anyone could help me thank you so much! I'm looking cause it was a sick version, somehow stuck in my head all these years. I just love Tom's lives. Thanks all!
You all know this, I just wanted to remind you.
