Recommendations for Kämez

I'm stopping off in Kamez for a few days and wondered if anyone had an tips on any good restaurants and bars we could go to during our stay.

Also is it close enough to Tirana to do a day trip there and see everything?

Tirana car rental

Hello I’m going to Albania for 10 days and will be in Tirana at the start of 2 days. I don’t want to drive in Tirana so I don’t want to pick up a rental car from the airport.

Is there a car rental company in Tirana where I can get a car for the rest of my trip and drop off at the airport?
Any tips etc welcome

Tips how to get from the airport to east gate during the night.

Hello,

I´m arriving to Tirana airport after 23:00, to travel to a friends wedding in Montenegro. A bus goes at 6:00 to Podgorica from the East gate. It just seems a very akward time to arrive. To short to really get a hotel and it seems buses also don´t work during this time and I´m to broke for a taxi. What is my best course of action to spend the night and get to my destination. I really enjoyed my last stay in Tirana, but now I feel a bit clueless and like a retarded tourist.

Must-see spots in Tirana — what would you show someone to make them want to live here?

I’ll be spending time in Tirana and trying to get a real feel for the city before deciding where to settle.

If you were trying to show someone why Tirana is worth living in, what places would you take them to?

I’m looking for a mix of food spots, cultural and historical places, museums, bars, and any scenic or photogenic areas that really capture the city’s character.

Open to anything that feels essential, not just tourist highlights. Appreciate any recommendations.

Cozy cafés, good food & a blowout?

Any recommendations for quiet local cafés that feel comfortable for introverts? I’m solo traveling and a bit shy in crowded places. Also looking for recommendations for really good local food spots.

I’m hoping to get a blowout while I’m here as well. Are walk-ins common at hair salons, or is it better to book ahead? If anyone has recommendations for good salons that are open until around 16:00–18:00, I’d really appreciate it.

I have been learning languages all my life, l and Albanian is one of the hardest I have tried to learn a little of. Everywhere I have been in my visit, people have been kinder, more patient and more visibly happy and encouraging that someone was trying to speak to them in Albanian than I could ever have expected. More so than in almost every country I have visited.

Any future tourists reading, Albanian is a beautiful language, and it is worth your time and effort to try, to learn some basic phrases, and to respect the people who speak it by doing so.

Faleminderit shumë! Unë flas vetëm pak, por më pëlqen shumë vendi juaj!

hello!

I’m a female traveller who is very comfortable in mostly male spaces back home (sports bars, etc, no problem) and there’s nothing negative about being there as a woman.

I have read that bar cafes in Albania that are small / show sports are typically understood as m en-only spaces. Is this true? would I be disrespectful to drink there or watch a football match? I do not want to intrude or make anyone uncomfortable.

Edit: I’m talking about the unspoken rules of what makes people comfortable, not ‚rules’ or ‚prihibitions’

thank you

Help Request!

Hello,

By any chance is anyone traveling from Tirana to Shkodër tonight or tomorrow? My partner and I left a small tote bag with two hats behind in our hostel. They have no practical value, but plenty of sentimental value. The hostel will store it, but not ship it (totally understandable). I was wondering if anyone is traveling from Tirana to Shkodër and could bring it? We would be extremely grateful!

Sincerely,

A desperate sentimental partner

I have an event happening at Grand Blue Fafa Resort & Spa, and am staying in an AirB&B close to it. My plane is landing at 2:10 PM. Can you help me out with finding cheapest transportation?

I heard taxi is about 40 euros, but I guess locals can help me find a cheaper variant.

Thanks!

I have a background in hospitality and I'm obsessed with finding the best food wherever I go. Just spent a week focused entirely on eating in Tirana and wanted to share what I found.

Pazari i Ri (New Bazaar) — This is the real deal. Skip the restaurants facing the main walkway and go to the stalls and small places in the back alleys. The grilled meats and fresh salads here were some of the best I had.

Blloku district — This neighborhood has genuinely good restaurants mixed with overpriced tourist spots. The trick is to go at lunch when locals eat, not at dinner when it's all for show.

Lake Tirana area — There are a few family-run spots on the less developed side of the lake that serve incredible tavë kosi and fergese. You'll know them because there's no English menu.

Coffee culture — Tirana takes coffee seriously. The espresso culture here rivals Italy, and I say that without exaggeration. Almost every neighborhood café pulls a great shot.

Honest warnings:

  • The restaurants right next to Skanderbeg Square are mostly mediocre and overpriced. Walk 5 minutes in any direction and quality doubles while prices drop.
  • Some "traditional Albanian" restaurants near tourist spots serve frozen food. If the menu has 60+ items, be suspicious.
  • Portions are huge. Don't over-order on your first visit.

Has anyone else explored the food scene in Tirana? Curious what spots others have found.
