First tatting project complete! I have questions and constructive feedback is absolutely appreciated!

This is my first successful creation made with size 10 thread and two shuttles. I just randomly made rings and chains before attempting this. Pattern is from a YouTube tutorial. If you see any glaring errors or wrong technique (especially around the picots) please please please point them out so I can improve!

I’m pretty pleased with this for it being my first go around but I wasn’t very confident with some of the techniques and I have a couple questions.

  1. After making a picot, do you add the second half of a double stitch again before continuing the pattern and then go to your first post picot double stitch? (I hope that makes sense)

  2. Do you tie your two threads together before you start or can you join your chaining thread when it’s time for the first chain and operate from there? I tied the threads together but I feel like it just created unnecessary bulk.

  3. Ball vs second shuttle: does it matter which route you take/ is one method considered better? I used two shuttles because I had extra thread already wound on a second shuttle but I almost ran out so I see the appeal of a ball but think it might get annoying. Idk though.

That’s all the questions I have for now and thank you in advance for any feedback or answers you can provide!

Half way done with row X and row XI

These two rounds are going quite fast, I’m completing both rounds of scallops so I don’t get bored! I’m considering these scallops the second to last large element, the final row is going to be the finale.

First ever set completed!

Guys! 5 months in! Got my shuttles and thread around new years! It's all wobbly and crooked but I am addicted! Had to share it because, just like any beginner I had to start a few times over because of one just one! Just one little tiny mistake! Oh the tatting gods how cruel you are!

Anyway, if u are beginner don't give up. Give up later when you have learned to do it well.

Look at my loops!!

I wanna be clear here:

I did NOT make a bracelet.

I am brand new to tatting & I was simply practicing learning my loops.

I am simply (now) wearing my loops because I'm very excited, & i know continuing to look at my loops will keep me excited to learn more & keep going.

And I'm sharing my loops here because many of you (wonderful humans) helped me so much when I was stuck, & when I couldn't even make one loop!

So, anyway...

Look at my loops!!

Monster Doily Round 8 Done

These rows were quite treacherous but I’m glad to have completed them! Now swiftly moving on to the scallops! One of my favorite elements of my last large piece!

Update: figured out the missing pattern

I did the large ones (size 10 Lizbeth) several years ago, before I learned about creating a front side/back side. Makes all the difference for this pattern

The small one is size 20 thread.

Beginniner Friendly Bookmark Patterns? (Inspo Pics Below)

Hi I’m want to get into shuttle tatting and want to start with a beginner friendly bookmark. I found these on Pinterest but none of them had a beginner friendly pattern attached to them. So I was hoping someone could help me find something similar that was free or cost friendly. Thanks for the help/advice :)

Learning to tatt

Hi everyone!

I am very interested in learning tatting. I dont know much about it. I have tried watching a video on YouTube, but my fingers are still very confused. Does anyone know of other resources I look at? I find this all so pretty! But it confuses my brain.

How do I get this down to 1 thread?

I’m super new and starting with the needle. And for the life of me I cannot figure out how to do this pattern without 2 threads connecting each loop. Is that even possible with a needle?

(Ignore the bottom 3 loops, I kind of gave up towards the end. For some reason, learning tatting has been like learning algebra — my brain doesn’t get it lol)

EDIT: Solved! Thank you /u/Banegard! Appreciate the other comments as well. So fast!

had a lot of fun with my first time using this thread!

any feedback is very welcome. i'm a beginner znd i'd love to learn and improve. Also any help with the twisting of my chains would be great, as well as advice on why they don't curve nicely.

the twisting i've been told is typical when working with 2 shuttles, but i want to eliminate it..i find it ugly. any other aevice and tips are very welcome too!

I know I should be trying new things, but I love this pattern so much that I can't stop making it. This time with smaller thread and nice variegated hand-dyed colors by Marilee Rockley. You can wind up a shuttle with rose colors and just keep making roses when you have short time frames and save them for later when you are ready to make a vine and attach them.

Needed a new insulated lunch bag for lace demo days, so of course now it has tatting on it.... My supervisor appears unimpressed. Alas.

So I finally started working on This Butterfly Doily. I have had the pattern since last fall but have been on a mission to build my jewelry inventory so there’s been no time for my peaceful doily making. Well, the last few weeks, I forced myself to make some time for some mental health grounding doily making because doilies are so very great for me as mental health breaks!

So, it began going so well, Papillon Antique… starts with the lovely making of the 4 butterflies. Then proceed to build around it. Well, things change and and once I got to round 2, I lost my beautiful butterflies and had to set them free and cut cut cut! The lighter shade just made them disappear into the work and it made me sad.

I waited until morning, started again and picked a completed different color to allow my lovelies to stand out… so heres the progress. I will say, my only sadness is this doily is going to be much smaller than I anticipated. I guess thats still the “crochet doily” brain of me. Nonetheless, that means it will be done sooner than later and as i have a few others on my list, as well as more exciting jewelry to create. I am enjoying this design very much! I will hopefully be done with row 2 of the body today and then I will have to decide what color option to choose for the final row.

Help! I've lost a pattern

Does anyone recognize this medallion pattern? I am *positive* I found it in the antique pattern library. I've been through those books twice now, but cannot locate it.

I am terrible at recreating from a piece, even if it's one I previously tatted. And this is black, which will make it challenging. (I know, I know, it was early in my tatting journey, before I learned that light colors show off best.)

Any assistance would be so appreciated.
