Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk is actually a great game, but nobody appreciates it for what it actually is

The game is a bridge that enables the plot of Phantasia.

Emil and Marta are great characters. Tenebrae exists.

Emil is mentally ill and very relatable. At least to me after I realized I was dealing with severe mental illness myself for the majority of my early life.

I love the music. The Wilderness of Sadness is legit one of the best Final Boss themes in the series. I also love that Image song the game has. That one Japanese Image Song that isn't the opening as far as I remember. I believe it is by Misono.

The plot is also not an actual Symphonia Sequel, as I said. It bridges the story so that Phantasia can happen. Due to what Ratatosk does at the end.

I hope it gets Remastered soon as well. I played this on the Wii and thus my main problem was the controls. I also find it funny how Emil opens doors. He does it like his hands are magical.

I reall love Tenebrae. His dynamic with everyone is great. I wish the other Centurions talked as well.

What do you think about Farah's personality?

In my opinion, I like her, I find her charming, but I've read that some people find annoying her enthusiastic and overpositive personality.

Best Tales game?

The only Tales game I've played is Tales of Arise and I thought it was quite good. The banter was funny, the characters charming, the combat had enough depth to be interesting without being completely overwhelming, and the story was longer than I expected it to be which was nice.

If i were to pick up another one to play, which would you all recommend me?

How do people here feel about the PSP entries?

So I have been considering playing TOP: Cross since it was recently translated as I was looking for RPGs to install on my Vita.

However, I have no idea on what makes the game different than the Super Famicom version since I only played that version, so I was wondering what was so special about the Cross edition.

Tales of Symphonia - Dialogue differences in versions

Hello everyone, I've been planning to start the tales of franchise with Symphonia. Comparing versions I saw all the differences and I don't care about most of them, but something bugged me: the dialogue differences from one version to another (saw it on Austin's comparison video an example with a scene of a floating angel).
I already have the Steam version, got it on a sale.

Are there a lot of instances of missing dialogue or are they rare?

Why do Dohalim and Kisara act like they're ancient?

I'm playing Tales of Arise and I thought that Dohalim was supposed to be in his 40s because of how often he talks about being old (even though 40s isnt that old, but compared to Law and Rinwell it might be), but I just found out that he's almost the same age as me (he's 28 and I'm almost 27). Kisara as well, and she's only 25. I don't think mid to late 20s is that old 😭😭

Hi Tales fans!

I'm not a "hardcore" fan of the franchise, but I do love JRPGs. And very much enjoyed Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia. In fsct I considered those three to be some of my all time favorite JRPGs (interesting worlds and characters, beautiful art and locations, very solid combat, tons of side contetns and replay value etc..).

But it seems like after those three the series juat fell off and turned into a bunch of low budget filler (correct me if wrong)?

I understand the series was never super high budget; but it feels like the devs actually care with the aforementioned three games. Now we're just getting remastered?

When you think we'll get another high quality and competent Tales game?

I made a bunch of Gels in Tomodachi Life. (BONUS: Colette Mii running the shop)

I used pixel art thanks to LivingTheGrid to get the basic shape, colored the inside Red for the Apple Gel, applied some colors to get as best as I could with what limited talent I have for the shine effect, then used blur on it. Then I took the Apple Gel and used the Colorize tool to get the other Gels.

Now that the English translation has been out for a while, what's everyone's thoughts on Phantasia X?

I'm very curious what the general consensus is on this version of the game. All I really know about this version is that it has new in-battle sprites with more "realistic" proportions (but only for playable characters, humanoid enemies and the "?????" people from the intro battle still use the original chibi sprites), and that there's a new party member.

How is the game in general? Does it look and play well? How does it compare to prior versions of Phantasia?

How do people feel about the new battle sprites? Did you find yourself enjoying them?

How is the translation? Is it well-written and accurate, with dialogue that feels natural, and no unnecessary embellishments (such as needless swearing, pop culture references that weren't in the original script, sex jokes that weren't in the original script, and so on)? Are the names and terminology consistent with official translations of other Tales games? Does it feel like an official translation that Bandai-Namco themselves would have put out?

And what's everyone's opinions on the new character? I personally am really not a fan of when ports/remakes/remasters add a new character who didn't exist in the original game. In all cases, I find these kinds of characters detract from the story and the party's dynamic rather than add something meaningful to it, and it's glaringly obvious that they weren't part of the game when it originally released. But maybe this character is different, who knows? How does everybody feel about Phantasia X's new party member?

Overall, would you consider this to be the definitive, perfect, there-is-no-reason-to-play-any-other-version Tales of Phantasia experience, or does it have some issues that hold it back from being able to definitively claim that status and may give someone a reason to prefer a different version, such as if the aforementioned new character is bad, or any other potential problems that exclusively exist in this version?
