If you have a morning open, an out of the way small project - chopstick making workshop was fun

We were visiting someone and had a day to kill and we came across this 1.5 hour chopstick workshop in Taipei in the Dihua district. It was a woodworking shop and they had you pick a wood type, do some planing and sanding, then varnish or oil or whatever it's called, then you also can woodburn some characters or pictures into the end. They came out so nice like real professional looking, and it was pretty fun. It's a nice way to make a useful souvenir and see how it's made.

If I'm allowed I can add the link but something similar shouldn't be hard to find if you google it, I think ours was jiwoodwork, maybe ~$25 US a person. We also did the papermaking craft at the paper museum, both were a fun experience if you're just hanging around the city and want some low key events.

My Taiwan plan - went through 21 travel vlogs and noted every place with timestamps, sharing in case it helps someone

I'm going to Taiwan soon and had a bunch of travel vlogs saved that I never got around to watching.

So I had AI go through them and pull out all the places with timestamps. Put it on a simple site mostly for myself — you pick a place and see which videos talk about it, jumps straight to that part.

Figured I'd share it since maybe someone else is planning a trip too. 47 places, 21 videos, mostly Taipei + some day trips.

best way for a day trip to alishan from fenqihu?

i will be staying in fenqihu over 2 days, 2 nights in two weeks. on the first day, i want to hike the eryanping and the shizhou trail and on the second day, i want to visit alishan.

how would you structure an entire day in alishan (departing and arriving in fenqihu)?

would you try to meet people in a hostel on the evening before and share a shuttle early in the morning? or would public transport from fenqihu be a better option?

if you'd only have one day in alishan, which trails would you hike? what other activity is a must do in your opinion?

have a great day everybody

Taiwan with a 6-month-old: what would you prioritize

Hi everyone! 😊

Looking for your opinion as we plan our Taiwan portion of a longer trip!

We’ll be traveling for about a month with our 6-month-old baby, starting in South Korea, then Singapore (for my husband’s work), and ending in Taiwan with grandma 🥰 We are FOODIES, love nature and to visit cultural landmarks.

In Taiwan, we’ll have 6 full days plus 2 travel days (April 25 – May 2). We’re hoping to see a lot but possibly at a slower pace with little one, likely based in Taipei with a few day trips and perhaps *one* short overnight.

If you had to pick just ONE of these, what would you choose in our situation?

- Hualien / Taroko Gorge (take guided highlights tour; scenic drive, viewpoints, coast like Qingshui Cliffs/Qixingtan)

- Alishan (mountains + famous train) open to hiring a car to make it easier

- Tainan or Taichung (simpler city option for food, culture, and relaxed pace)

- Doing day trips from Taipei (the classics; Jiufen, Yangmingshan National Park, Yehliu Geopark + Keelung, Beitou, etc.)

- Anything else?

We’re treating this trip as more of an “appetizer” and would happily come back for a longer trip later on.

Which would you prioritize with a 6-month-old, and why?

Thank you so much 🙏
