What should I expect from a language school interview?

There is a new student visa requirement that says incoming students must prove basic Japanese fluency over a zoom/skype interview. I’m not necessarily worried about passing (I’m N4/N3) but it would be nice to know what kind of questions to expect, as I tend to get very nervous.

This might be one of the stranger posts here, but it is a genuine question. I am not looking to play the victim, as I don't find those discussions constructive; however, based on my recent interactions with various Japanese entities, I’ve noticed a trend that I wasn't previously aware of. I am a student from Morocco with a strong GPA, having ranked first in my class. Recently, I began studying the Japanese language and developed a desire to pursue my graduate studies in Japan. Fortunately, Morocco and Japan maintain diplomatic relations; in fact, during my university years, I frequently received promotional materials encouraging students to study in Japan.

Yet, I am struggling to understand the current reality. No matter which university I approach, I cannot seem to secure an enrollment. These institutions typically require a research project and direct contact with a professor. I have received positive feedback on my project from some professors, some even praised my work, but as soon as my country of origin is mentioned, communication is abruptly cut. I encountered the same issue with Japanese language schools; some explicitly stated they would not accept applications from Morocco.

I don't want this to turn into a 'Japan is racist' post; that isn't my point. I am simply looking for clarification because most Moroccans I know are facing the same obstacles regardless of their academic achievements. Professors in France and Saudi Arabia have mentioned that this has become more common under the current government. If this is true, why did the Japanese Ambassador hold an official event at my university urging Moroccans to apply? It feels like a 'fake' promotion. I understand an ambassador’s job is to promote their country, but the message doesn't seem to align with the reality of the admissions process.

I’ve sent about 60 emails, and the majority of recipients stop responding the moment I mention I am Moroccan. Is this behavior normal? I am genuinely trying to understand what is happening.

Guys I’m currently an A level student (AS) rn and I was thinking of applying to Japan for studies via predicted A2 grades. Problem is that Japan doesn’t really have many fully English taught engineering degree here (I want computer science specifically). I have seen waseda, Sophia, Aizu and Kyushu and earlier of which I have less chances of getting into plus high tuition. Is there any more uni that can offer me fully English taught cs degree? (Ritsumeikan doesn’t allow September intake for that program). Furthermore can I even get into Aizu or Kyushu with 3A in maths physics chemistry, IELTS around 8 and some side coding projects 😭😭😭😭help me out here guys I really wanna go to Japan

So I hv just completed my last year of highschool and I was wondering of taking a year gap to learn japanese and make a portfolio about my art then apply for MEXT scholarship and try to get in the Kyoto University of Arts. Now i need advice whether this is practical or if there is any other kind of way which is better than this since I have heard that very few people get scholarships and its just a word to attract more applicants. Also currently I am aiming for being a mangaka but I am not really that good at the advanced art techniques (like I know basics which I will improve but you get my point..it wont be as good as someone who is into this for a longer time)..

P.S.: I wont be going without scholarship...

Hi everyone,

I am a 12th-grade student from Vietnam and I'm currently preparing my application for the Integrated Science Program (ISP) at Hokkaido University as a Chemistry-oriented student.

I have read about the program and wonder if my profile is good enough for the application since the program only admitted 12 students last year.

Here's my profile:

  • GPA: 3.72
  • SAT: 1370
  • IELTS: 6.5 Academic
  • Awards: 3rd prize in the Vietnamese National Chemistry Olympiad (VChO), and some smaller chemistry prizes.

I'm planning to retake SAT, how much should I aim for? Should I retake IELTS as well, or 6.5 is enough?

Any helpful insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! I’ve been accepted into the College of Global Liberal Arts dual degree program with the Australian National University, with a 100% tuition fee reduction scholarship.

I was wondering if anyone here has received this scholarship before or is currently in the program. I’d really appreciate any insights on approximate living expenses and accommodation costs.

I’d also love to connect with others who have been accepted into the same program. Feel free to PM me!
