r/stereolab

There have been posts in the past regarding similar artists. Here is one that I do not recall seeing mentioned.

The band is Le Futur Pompiste. They have 2 albums that I am aware of (self titled "Le Futur Pompiste" and "Your stories and your thoughts"). While not totally the same, the vibe / sound is there.

I am unsure of posting links here, so some songs I would recommend are:

The air that surrounds us

A way to exist

When waves settle down

Communication

~ If links are allowed, someone let me know. Will post in comments

P.S. another random shout "choose your own adventure / vanishing twin"

Hey everyone!

I’m curious to hear from the hardcore fans: is there a Stereolab track you really struggle to listen to all the way through, but refuse to skip out of respect for the album?

I’ll start (and I’m fully prepared to for the downvotes) for me, it’s "A Flower Called Nowhere."

I know it’s a beloved track for many, but I find it boring and interminable. However, I never hit skip. Instead, I see it as a long, painful introduction to "Diagonals," which makes the transition feel like a total liberation when it finally kicks in.

What about you? Which track just doesn’t click for you, and why?

I've had some requests to do this one--posted it a couple of years ago I think, but hadn't tried it on this particular accordion. Let me know if you have others you want me to try!

I'm talking about the original, not the one played by an egg.
Besides, if you want me to butcher play others, just tell me which ones.

the flower called nowhere time signature

I swear the time signature is 6/8 and the reach of possible mixed meter of 4/4 with how the vocals are sometimes phrased, so I got curious and looked it up.

On the Google Gemini answer (which tbh I doubt is accurate), it said it was in 3/4 which really threw my mind. Musically, it doesn’t make sense to me when the harpsichord notes are clearly on the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 leaving out the one. I scrolled down further and saw someone’s musescore adaptation of the piece and there are just a lot of flaws to me. It is also notated in 3/4, but with how fast the song would be in 3/4 with the way they arranged it, it would make the vocals and everything else double the speed it is in the actual song.

Am I going crazy and it is just 3/4? Because I swear it is in 6/8 and not a real waltz.
